11/6/2015 DB's Dailies: Kainoa & Kolohe @ Rabbit Island

At 0708 I found what prove to be Kolohe (RW22) up in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. He would move down at 0854, and at 0857 met a smaller animal at the water line, which would turn out to be Kainoa (RN04). Both would enter the water for a swim/play session at 0900, and haul out together at 1040 fronting 1BS. Kolohe gave Kainoa a brief bark and Kainoa would move off approximately 25 ft. They remained at those positions the rest of the day.

Other than Lesley’s call at 0740, advising that RW02 was absent from his molting spot , I received no other calls or text about any other animals from any source.

11/5/2015 DB's Dailies (cont) Yesterday's News from Melanie Holokai and RK36 at Turtle Bay

Holokai from Wed 11/4
 RK36 from 11/4

11/5/2015 DB's Dailies: Buster@Hanauma Bay, Kainoa@Rabbit Island, RI37@Hauula, RK36&La'akea@Turtle Bay, RW02@Mokuleia, Luana@Hidden Beach, BG@10 Min Beach, RIP&Ka'ena@KP

At 0647 on my first Hanauma Bay look of the day, while looking from the overlook, I saw an animal down on the left side rock flats. When I got down there at 0655 I found Buster (RV08). There was a wallow and trail to his present location, indicating that he had begun up against the base of the cliff.

On my 1149 recheck, posse member Jack (At the Bay) advised that he had noticed that Buster was gone around 1115.

My first look at Rabbit Island was a bust, but when I got back to Makai Pier at 0920 I found a barely visible animal in the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS. At 1005 what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) began moving down, allowing the ID. He would remain all day.

Lesley called at 0729 with what I thought would be the daily RW02 molt report, but surprisingly she was calling to say that he was no longer there. I’ve nothing else about his whereabouts today.

Tammy T., did the Ka’ena Point trek today, and afterward checked the RW02 site. Though he was out for breakfast on the morning check, Tammy found him at 1500. At Hidden Beach Tammy found Luana (RN58). At 10 Min. Bch she found a slick and clean BG (R303). At Ka’ena Point she found Ka’ena (RO40) and a very scuffy FIP (RR70).

At 1548 mail from Dana brought word of RK36 & La’akea at Turtle Bay, and RI37 at Hauula.

In the Yesterday’s News department, Melanie had Turtle Bay duty yesterday, and sent photos from her shift of Holokai (RG40), near McKenzie’s, and what would prove to be RK36 at Right Spot’s Spot.

11/4/2015 DB's Dailies: Aukai,Kimo Kai, Kainoa&Kaiwi@RI, RW02@Mokulleia, RI37, Holokai & U/U@Turtle Bay

At 0700 I found what would prove to be Aukai (RL12), snoozin’ at the log, 40 ft left of 1BS on Rabbit Island.

When I got back to the pier at 0816 I noticed two animals playing in the shallows. It would prove to be Kimo Kai (RT12) & Kainoa (RN04) . They would haul out together and move up. They would join with Aukai when she moved down, and all 3 remained together the rest of the day.

On a pan at 1038 I panned to find what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) hauling out to Right Middle Cliff, where she would remain the rest of the day.

Lesley called at 0803 to advise that RW02 was still there, and D#6 of his molt is proceeding.

At 0918 Diane Gabriel called to advise that she & Karen Turner found RI37 at Kuilima Cove, Turtle Bay. They would then continue on their journey to the east.

At 0945 they found Holokai (RG40) near McKenzie’s (Kaikaina’s birth beach). He would depart at 1700.

Melanie called at 1755 from Turtle Bay, advising that she had encountered an U/U at Right Spot’s Spot, on her way back toward the hotel. Awaiting shots from her shift.
