Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:41 pm and initially there were no seals. Marilyn stayed and eventually two seals showed up.
At 12:55 pm RP24 Mohala hauled out near the 1BS where she has been hanging out. She appears to be about 90-95% molted; there is only a small patch of old fur on her mid to rear dorsal. She was ID'd by her sub-adult size, new light gray female belly, two red tags and the nb on her LFF.
At about 1:27 pm, Marilyn found that RT19 had hauled out about 50 feet Makapuu side of 1BS. After he played with a stick for a while he went into snooze mode. Then RP24 decided to galumph along the shore and go to RT19. He entered the water and headed toward 1BS where he hauled out. RP24 returned to her original starting place which was near RT19. He then galumphed over to LPB and went into snooze mode.
( appears the kid wanted to be alone)
Team R&B got a text from an old friend that there was a seal at Iroquios Point. They were just passing the area so they turned around. When they arrived they found Miss RH92 Nalani from Kauai.
She has a clean coat, gaining weight, tags were visible and her scars on belly, face and head were visible.
Much to their delight Team R&B got to meet a wonderful lady who is posse pal Kathy O.. While talking Kathy was able to recognize them from the blog. Kathy and hubby Bill were on site officially as a volunteer. Team R&B filled her in on who RH92 was and a little bit of her history.
Always nice when good people catch up with each other!
Next stop was at Kahe where they found a seal. They thought it would be RM31 but good they checked because it wasn't him. It was RG32, he has no tags and a scar over his eye.
Heading over to Pokai they were happy to see RM31 Kai. He was resting on the rocks. Then they spotted Kala RH76 to the right.
While in the area they along with junior sealette saw five turtles. This was for sure a highlight!
Last stop was at the cliffs where they saw a male seal on the rocks. They were trying to get its ID when they heard a very loud explosion. What ever it was it certainly echoed through the valley over and over.
There was a group that left the area shortly after, such a shame people have to create an unsafe environment.
Meanwhile the seal only propped up and stayed in his spot. Team R&B did not stay in the area and it was when they got home to look at the photos they were able to ID the seal as R3CX Nalu.
