April 17, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:05 to 1:45 and there were four seals on island during that time.
On the 3BS side of Middle Cliff were RF34 Pua and PO3. In one photo it looks like PO3 may be a female, but it is way too early to confirm. PO3 decided to go down over the rocks into the shoreline water and then had a fair amount of trouble making it back up. Mom kept a watchful eye until the pup managed to climb up the rocks and return to Mom. Its always amazing how little RF34 seems to have her pups swim. Other moms seem to start their pups out earlier.
Between 3BS and SRI were two seals near each other:
Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light tan female belly and two red tags. Too bad this critter wasn't there yesterday when NOAA was on island.
Nearby was a Sub-adult Male: subadult size, tan male belly and two red tags. This is probably R7AF who was seen by NOAA yesterday.

Team R&B's found one seal at their first stop. They ID'd RM31 Kai, who was alone to the right of seal inlet.

Next stop at guard rails they spotted a young male seal. They noticed his scar on the right side and thought it was RP30 Puka. They waited for him to finally move and they were able to confirm his ID with a look at his tags.

When they checked Kahe they only found one seal. Lefty RG28 was getting hit by the waves, but stuck it out and stayed in place.

Last find of the day came when they headed over to Nimitz. They checked the area and saw that the high tide covered the reef. This made them think there wouldn't be any seals. But then they spotted two seals side by side on a sandy spot. It was R407 Kawika with RN14 Kalani.  Very cool.
