Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 2:25 and there were two seals seen today. What makes these two critters special was a mom and her pup. The small beach in the middle cliff area is where mom chose to give birth. When Marilyn left yesterday at 12:10 the obviously pregnant adult female was alone, and when she arrived today a pup was there. Marilyn didn't see any afterbirth or other remnants of the birth so it appears the pup had been born some hours earlier. I like to think we have an April Fool's pup.
Based on Marilyn's observations and input from NOAA mom is probably RF34 Pua who was due to pup sometime this coming week, also her rear right side scar and two red tags.
Team R&B first check at Kahe they only found one seal. Seems all the boys have taken off for other
places. Alone on the rocks was RL20 Kalua.
They headed out to plains and found Miss Aukai RL12 on shore in a nice zone. They had informed NOAA of her where abouts and they came out and gave Miss Aukai an applied bleach number N13. She'll be easy to ID now.
From there, they scouted out the area and found two seals on Kermits Reef. Its been years since seeing two seals on this spot. Todays critters were R407 Kawika and RN14 Kalani. It took Team R&B to recognize RN14. Kalani got an applied bleach N14. YEA!
On their recheck of Kahe they noted that RL20 Kalua was no longer there. But there was Kaale RH32 alone on the rocks.
