Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:05 to 2:45 and there were three seals during that time.
Alone near 1BS on LPB was an Adult Female: adult size, older coat, brown female belly and two red tags. The seal hardly changed positions during Marilyn's observations.
Between Middle Cliff and 3BS was an Adult Male: adult size, new coat, medium gray male belly and two red tags.
Between 3BS and SRI was an Unknown Sub-Adult: subadult size, newer coat, light gray belly, unsure about sex and two red tags.
Team R&B were up and out early enough to see the smiling moon this morning. When they arrived at the bay they found RM31 Kai and sweet girl RL70 Leina. Both looking fine, no hooks and no new markers.
Next at tracks they found RH32 Kaale. He was alone and is about 50% done with his molt.
Team R&B noticed a lifeguard flying by on a jetski and wondered what was happening. They watched and then there it was a humpback spout and then a breach. They're back!!!
Next at Kahe they were telling their friends they spotted a humpback, all were equally excited they're back. Team R&B happen to look to the left and saw a big seal haul up on the rocks. They went to see and found Lei Ola RH48.
As they were watching Lei Ola another seal came in. It was a BIG seal, they saw her tag KG54. She seemed nervous and left the area. She is a big girl!
At the cove they were happy to find Opihi RQ42, now 90% molted. He flipped to his side, they saw a green fishing line about 15 inches long with a hook embedded under his chin. He can possibly toss the hook but the line is thick and has some knots. They called the hotline and authorities and a volunteer came out. Unfortunately Team R&B had warned a couple of divers of the hooked seal, they said "okay Auntie" but went right down to where RQ42 was resting. GRRRRRRR.
If all of that wasn't enough drama out there.... they spotted Kaale RH32 hauling out with Lei Ola RH48 on the rocks. Of course there was a ignorant human flying their drone over the seals.
From afar they spotted a seal at tracks. They hurried over to find a newly molted male with two red tags. It was a very handsome R3CX Nalu.
