Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 1:45 pm. There were three seals seen on island today.
Out on the back of the rockflats of LPB was Weaner A: weaner size, shape, and coloration, two red tags. and a light belly.
About 50 feet of the 2BS was Weaner B: weaner size, shape and coloration, two red tags and light belly.
About 50 feet of the 3BS was RK37 Huia: adult size, older coat, yellowish tan female belly, two red tags and NB on lower left side. It is more difficult to see her nb with an older coat. There is a good chance she is the Adult Female that Marilyn reported yesterday.
Team R&B started their day at the bay. They were there for a while trying to make a seals ID. Turns out it was RM31 Kai. They noted some strange dude walking back and forth in the area. They spoke to a DLNR person and let him know about the dude. He went to speak to him, and Team R&B left for the day.
They went to check in on Lei Ola RH48. Amazingly she looks to be done with he molt.
While on site Team R&B noticed two boys with their dad, one kid saw Lei Ola and starting yelling at her. So Team R&B went over and stood by the boys and dad. One kid ran down the rocks and the other one was throwing rocks. Dad's only response was asking :"what are you knuckleheads doing?" Team R&B saw a cop who appeared to be watching them and filled him in on their behavior.
SOOOO many of us found out today that Lei Ola's pup was found dead. I'll put the link to the news story. But in the meantime this is the second seal death in a very short time, not to mention they both were very young. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/06/14/noaa-another-monk-seal-found-dead-oahu/
Team R&B made one last stop at another west side location. They found two seals and knew one of them was RH76 Kala. It was the male that took the time to get his ID. Finally they noticed in one of their photos his scar on his head. Then they knew it was RG32.
