Today a NOAA team headed by Jessie Bolander went to Rabbit Island on a bleaching trip. They had also hoped to vaccinate RJ06 (Aka) but he was a no-show. However, RJ30-Wailea, the pup born on the Mokes this year, was on RI.
The team was able to get a large N46 bleach on RN46 (Kea) who was located about 30 feet west of the first blue sign. I thank them dearly. The team also was able to apply a large N37 bleach and double lines above the rear flippers of RH36 (Kawena).
Kawena rolled over about 10 minutes after the bleach was applied so we will have to await future viewings to see how well the bleach took. They were able to get a small blob of bleach on RJ30-Wailea. NOAA provided a closeup of her bleach. DB would have said to the NOAA team "you done good".
I am thankful to the team. Hopefully those of us that view RI will have more seals we can identify.
