10/29/2015 Tony's Turtle Bay Update

Holokai at Turtle Bay - Thank you Tony!

10/29/2015 DB's Dailies: Kainoa,Kea&Um@Rabbit Island, Buster@Hanauma Bay, Kolohe@Lanai Lookout, Nihoa@Waialee, Holokai, RK36@Turtle Bay

Rabbit Island was a bust on my 1st look at 0630, and even when I got back at 0818, the cupboard was still bare. Finally, at 0942 on a pan I found what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) & an U/M hauling out together at Left Greenery, on RI. They would remain there all day.

On a pan at 1200 I found Kea (RN46) out on the left end rock flats.

I did a Toilet Bowl check at 1300, but found nobody. I was back at the pier when Kaipo called from Hanauma Bay at 1445 reporting an animal out on the left side rock flats, so it was back to HB. When I got down there to the flats at 1500 I found a very green Buster (RV08). He has been MIA since his last sighting at Diamond Head on 10-6-15.

Posse member Bob Ubersax called at 1600 with the report of an animal at Lanai Lookout Flats. It took some doing, but I finally was able to see his right side natural bleach, confirming Kolohe (RW22).

Brandi called at 1434 with an update on other critters. She advised of a reported animal at Kawela Bay (I’ve heard nothing further), an animal at the Keiki Pool, which would turn out to be Holokai (RG40), and what would proved to be Nihoa (R912) at Waialee Beach Park (Dead Man’s Curve).

A later call from Brandi advised that Karen had confirmed Kolohe (I’m assuming that is “Kauai Kolohe”), RK36 at Right Spot’s Spot, Turtle Bay.

10/28/2015 DB's Dailies: Kainoa,Aukai,Kea,RG32&2 U/M, Rabbit Island, DB, Nihoa @Shark's Cove, Jeannie Martinson

It was a bumper crop of animals at Rabbit Island. There were six to be exact. One of those requires that I fess” up to a giant Ooooops !! I’ll get to that in a moment.

At 0639 I found 4 animals in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of 1BS. They would prove to be Kainoa (RN04), Aukai (RL12), and 2 Unknown males, which I was no able to ID. All three of the males would enter the water at 0914. Aukai remained at that location all day. Kainoa would later haul out to join Kea at Left Greenery. The UM with a new coat would haul out to Rock Right Beach at 1232. I was still not able to ID, simply because he gave me nothing to work with. The other U/M had an old coat, and I did not see him again today.

At 0647 Kea (RN46) hauled out to 3BS, and would later relocate to Left Greenery. He remained the rest of the day.

Okay...... now for the Ooooops ! For the past 3 days I’ve happily reported that Cass was back. I based the call on her size, color and a small scar , center chest. I found the same animal just hauling out to 3BS at 0823, and move up into the Morning Glory for a snooze. Just before 1100, the animal moved down, and rolled over to show me the ventral side. You can imagine my shock when I discovered that Cass had magically grown a little, tiny ,penis !!!!! Shortly thereafter when he rolled back to his belly, I saw, for he first time, an L5 bleach on the right shoulder. It took some time to make sure of what I was seeing. I got a text off to Tracy, asking for help, and lo and behold , she advised that I was looking at RG32, and male weaner from Molokai, born to Mom RW30. Just as a point of interest RW30 is the daughter of M&M (R020). I called Diane Pike on Molokai, with the news. She was stoked !

At 1004 Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal at Shark’s Cove on the North Shore. I advised the Hotline, and Jeannie Martinson responded and got photos. It would prove the Nihoa (R912). Because of the humongous surf, Ocean Safety had close all of Shark’s Cove, so she had the place all to herself.

10/27/2015 DB's Dailies: Kea, Cass & Kainoa@Rabbit Island, Kimo Kai @ Irma's

Once again Rabbit Island provided the only cast in the SE quadrant. The players would remain the same as yesterday. At 0920 I found Kea (RN46) in the Morning Glory, 30 ft right of 3BS. That would change late in the day.

At 0933 I found Kainoa (RN04) snoozin’ at Right Middle Cliff.

On a pan at 0939 I found Cass (RG06) just hauling out , 80 ft right of 3BS. She would move up into the Morning Glory and snooze away the day.

Diane Gabriel checked in with a Hotline call about an animal at Irma’s, at the traffic light just east of Sandy Beach, at 1745. When I arrived at 1750 I found Kimo Kai (RT12), directly down from the light. He departed at 1843. I picked up the stuff and called it a day.

**  I did hear from one of the kayak folks that there was a seal "still" on Moku Nui today..... NOW... I wasn't able to get clarification as to what "still" meant as in from yesterday or ???  the other problem was there were no kayak tours out to the islands today due to high surf advisory.... So I have no id, no proof and no idea how long said seal was there.   (It was a busy day so I wasn't able to follow up.... I will try again tomorrow).
