HMMA Update from August 3rd

At 0638 Marilyn checked in with a report of Kawena (RH36) out side of the SPZ swimming along the shoreline. At 0818 Don checked in with a report of a seal in Hauula in front of the fire station. He ID'ed Honey Girl (R5AY) by tag. At 1053 a caller reported a seal at Kaena Point. Photo was sent in of the seal but no ID could be made. The seal appears to have a new shiny coat. Jon checked in from Hauula at 1334 reporting Honey Girl's departure at 1300.

 Carola checked in from Mokuleia. Ka'ale (RH32) was on the beach from 0800am until I left at 0400pm. He woke up a couple of times when the waves splashed him, he eventually moved up higher towards the rocks and went back to sleep.

 The west side volunteers mobilized again for a 3rd day of searching for the seal reported with an arrow in one of its rear flippers. A big Mahalo to Chrissy, Robyn, Melina, and Debbie.

Marilyn was on it at 0530 as usual, and found Kawena (RH36) in the water. When she had to depart for work, Kawena was swimming outside the zone, moving west. I’ve heard nothing further from AD all day,

 At 0900 I found a 75% molted Sadie (RB12), right of 3BS on Rabbit Island. She would be joined by a 25% molted Cass (RG06), and Kala (RH76).

 I found an U/M on the left end rock flats at RI, at 0922. He would haul out briefly to Kala at 1227, but immediately departed. My guess is Kekoa, but I can’t prove a thing, so an U/M is required.

 Team Billand checked in at 1237 with the report of RL42 along side the West Side , Ka’ena Point trail.

 Posse member Tammy T., trekked to the End of the World. At the 10 minute beach the found what appeared to be Ka’ena (RO40) and what I believe to be BG(R303). Nihoa would be my 2nd choice, but scars seem to support the BG ID. , and at Hidden Beach reported Luana (RN58). At the point Tammy reported RIP (RR70) on the back beach. On they way home she stopped off to spend time with Ka’ale (RH32) at Mokuleia. Thanks Tammy.... Ya’ Done Good

HMMA Update from August 2nd

At 0700 a report came in about a seal hauled out at Three Tables. Seal departed at 0820 before an ID could be made.

 Karen T. check in via email from the Turtle Bay pup site with a report of Ua Maile (RT10) and PO5 on the reef at low tide. Pup nursed for about 20 minutes. As the tide rose they went into the pool and swam. They went over the reef at 1120 and battled some waves on the shelf on the west (hotel) side of the pool. After about 10 minutes they reentered the pool and swam. They hauled out at 1210 on east side of the beach. Pup nursed then they snoozed. Karen provided some belly shots on PO5. Gender is still not confirmed at this time.
