Team Billand was out this morning checking in on the outfall. Just as they got to the site they spotted two seals in front of the outfall. They were heading out and fighting along the way. They followed in the direction the two were heading, but the seals went in different directions and they lost sight of them. Based on their observations and photos, the two critters were bosom buddies RH32 Ka'ale and RN14 Kalani.
Much later they went back to check and found Ka'ale had hauled out and was snoozing on the rocks alone. His tags and fat boy body was visible. They never saw Kalani for the rest of the day.
Team Billand made the Ka'ena West trek and the only critter they met up with at the 30 minute mark. RIP RR70 was alone on the rocks sleeping in peace. He's looking healthy robust and getting quite green like all the rest.
This morning I was scanning social media and saw a photo of Kaiwi @Kaimana Beach she is full into her molt and looking like she's about ready to be done. Hard to say how much she has left, from the photo but maybe 50-50.
And lastly today's news story on television and hitting most monk seal social pages was the three seals recent suspicious deaths on Molokai. They are asking the public for help with any information.
Honestly, it just breaks my heart and rattles my brain when I think about how senseless this is, I will never understand how anyone would harm an innocent creature.
