Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Melody and Lesley who spent the day teaming up with Tammy. Lesley's complete update is part 2 of the dailies. Oops almost forgot, I got a brief update on my Rabbit Island Observation.
This afternoon I had an appointment in the city so on the way home I decided to stop by Makai Pier and check on things. Well for starters, lame brain me forgot the camera. I arrived at the pier close to 3:00 pm and initially only spotted one seal about 40 ft left of the 1BS. The tide was high and the critter didn't give me much to look at since it was only showing me it's hind flippers and back. I reported this adult size seal as a U/U.
After studying the UU and hoping for some movement, I scanned the island and found a newly hauled out weaner sized critter about 20 ft to the right of the 3BS. The only thing I had to go on was bright red tags and a sandy weaner body. Since the critter was tag we know it wasn't PO6.
Team Billand got to all you can eat breakfast buffet early morning. While there looking around they spotted the Kaale RH32 by hearing him snort his way by the jetty and into the outfall, looking for his breakfast. They saw him stealing a fish from one of the fishermen. Kaale was also spotted jumping at the wall adding crab to his menu, but he left only after a couple of hours.
Team Billand left the site to enjoy Robert's Birthday by having a nice breakfast. Happy Birthday Robert, wishing you all the best and sending you much love and gratitude!
On a west side beach Team Billand found da Benny snoozing alone on shore. He is looking fat and healthy.
THEN.... at a different westside beach Team Billand found RL42 Leia stretched out on her back totally relaxed, and according to Barbara and I quote " She dumped Benny's Butt" LOL
Melody went to visit the cousins this morning and as she was on her way to birth beach she spotted something by Camp Erdman. She went down to check and a newly hauled out young monk seal. Suspecting it might be one of the cousins but couldn't get a good look at the tag to confirm, she called it into the hotline. Lesley arrived soon after and was able to ID Napua RK40/41.
A bit later Melody went over to birth beach and there was a seal in the rocks close to the water was still wet from hauling out. It was Puna RK88, and Melody called him into the hotline. She stayed for a bit, but he was in snooze mode and not into moving around. So Melody went back to check on Napua. She had come up further on the beach and found herself some sticks and things to play with.
Thank you Melody for the video.
