7/14/2018 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley.  AND for the record no Rocky sightings that I am aware of. LOL.   Seems yesterday's news coverage has everyone on alert, I have received emails with lots of questions.
Let's just be patient, and trust nature to do what it does best. And for all the folks pacing the sands of maternity beach, well, ONLY Rocky knows. :-)
Team Billand was out early checking in at the all you can eat buffet and sure enough, RH32 Ka'ale was there foraging at the outfall. There were lots of new faces out there too, some of the new guys were whistling to Kaale like a puppy.  Kaale being his clever little self took a fish off one of the fishermen's line, and he also caught his own stickfish and bout six akule. Seems Ka'ale has become very comfortable staring down the fishermen when they pull their lines in.  This kid has picked up some really bad habits.  A volunteer arrived and introduced himself, and shortly after Team Billand left after being there for 3+ hours.
Later in the afternoon Team Billand found Ka'ale on a westside beach snoozing. Barbara's comment. "He is so fat" .

Team Billand made the Ka'ena West trek and found a seal ID'd Kalani RN14, sleeping against the rocks, tags were visible.  On their way out they found him still there.

Earlier in the day they spotted a seal on a west side beach but they were taking Junior Seal protector Olivia home. So when they came back over to the westside an hour later the seal was still there. They were able to ID Lei Ola RH48. She was getting shoved about by the high tide coming in. She rolled about, flippers in the air, turned around and then the next big wave, she left.

AND NOW Lesley's Ka'ena Update:
Started off with 2 seals right in front of the house.
Around 7:00am RN58 "Luana" & R330 "Squinty" hauled out and are still there as I sit down to write my report (past 1pm)

I look for the weaners but both were MIA. On my way back hours later both were hauled out on the beach her in front but not together.
We have a "seal-ed" beach today.

I met with Marilyn, Ken and his friend April. They hiked in and I drove since I was on a time frame today.

As soon as I arrived at the Boulders a heavy shower caught up with me. The cool air was great cause I got to see 24 Caper blooms (Capparis spinosa Caper Plant)

Out at the point my only seal was RO40 "Ka'ena" hauled out on the Runway.  More tomorrow 🌺
