5/12/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: Lesley's Ka'ena Point & Pup Update

Up early we met down at the pups site.

RN58 "Luana" & PO4 D14, RL42 & PO5 D8 were in the company of RW02 "PVKauai".

"Luana" & PO4 were having a swimming session while RL42 & PO4 were sleeping. RW02 woke up, rolled in to the water, slowly rolling this way and that he made his way towards "Luana" & pup.

There was some under water communication soon he turned and swam away. We didn't see him again today.

We headed out to the point to look for RH32 "Ka'ale" as we made it there we were informed that he had been seen on the West side.

RR70 "RIP" was on Back Beach, we stayed around doing lots of outreach. A bobbing head swam towards the Main Pool entrance but didn't haul out and left. We were leaving when one of the visitors called us back, the seal was back, we followed him around till he hauled out in his on pool. Yes, that was RO40 "Ka'ena".

At home looking at the photos we confirmed that the first seal swimming by was also RO40 "Ka'ena" by the scar on his head.

Before calling a day we went by the pups site. Three seals were sleeping peacefully while PO5 was wiggling 360 around mom.
