5/23/2018 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought you by Lesley and Team Billand. Once again it wasn't an abundant seal day, but the critters that were seen are for sure worth the day!

Lesley got an early start and checked in on the playpen. RN58 "Luana" & PO4 (day 25) were inside their playpen and RL42 "Leia" & PO5 ( day 19) were in there also sleeping.
Lesley made it out to the point and only found one seal. She ID'd RW02 "PvKauai" sleeping on the runway.  Lesley called him into the hotline.

Team Billand made a round of all their usual spots and they were all monk seal free, so they headed out to Ka'ena West trek.  At 8:53 am they found RIP RR70 resting on the rocks alone. The hotline was called and Rip was reported. They went a little further, but no seals so they returned back to Rip who was still on the rocks snoozing.  At 10 am they met up with volunteer Laura and she was updated on Rip's location.

Close to 11 am Team Billand made their way back to a Leeward Beach and as they were searching the area they spotted a "green thing" in the water.  Was it a crocodile?  Was it a garbage bag? Was it a turtle? NO it was butt head Ka'ale RH32. Still with no visible hooks or lines showing.
He attempts to land on rocks to the left, and the waves knock him about. He moves to the right side, hauls up on the rocks and stays. He is very green, nice and plump, healthy looking, alert and no new injuries.
He stayed on the rocks, there was no one there just Ka'ale. Good to see him after a day or two. He changed position rolled over on his back and showing off his green belly.  Team Billand left the site, and was told later in the afternoon by their son NOAA was on site.
