1-21-11 DB Dailies

My first pass was a bust, but on round #2 life got better. From the Makapuu Overview at 0903 I found Duke, just hauling out to 1BS on Rabbit Island . When I panned down the beach to the right I found Kolohe, 90 ft right of 3BS.

From Makai Pier, at 1002 I found Sam, just hauling out to the right of 1BS.

At 1043, M38 hauled out to 3BS and galumphed over to join Kolohe. They would remain there together for the rest of the day.
All of that would have made for a perfectly nice day, but at 1113 it got even better. Makana hauled out to 1BS and galumphed up and beyond Duke and Sam who were 50 ft apart. Makana would later move down and he and Duke interacted for the first observed time. It was all very low key and tentative, most nose to nose contact, and everything was warm & fuzzy. Later Sam would move over to join them. This too was the first observed interaction between Sam & Makana. That interaction also was warm & fuzzy. All were snoozin' together when I called it a day.
Ever since Makana arrived, I'd been thinking of Makana and Sam as little twins. Today's observations with the animals together really drove home the fact that Sam is chunkier than Makana, though they are the same cohort (born the same year).

Dera called at 1205 to advise of an animal at Sand Island. Dana called at 1312 to say that Karen Baines was on the scene and that it was Kermit. Apparently he has been there for two days.

Team Billand checked in at 1541 to advise that posse member Clay Gates reported Irma at Iroquois Point. She had last been seen at Diamond Head on 1-14-11.

Oh how neat to see THE NEXT GENERATION all huddled together on R.I. Great shots of a really special scene there. All those YOUNGINS, investigating each other, just as us HUMANS do, when a new neighbor moves in next door. So cute......So now you got to see the difference with Sam and Makana...COOL obervation.
