At 1045, Buster hauled out to 1BS. I hadn't seen him since 10-7-09. Just a few minutes later Mikala hauled out to join him. Seeing that chunky , little girl, made my day. I had last seen her on 10-6-09 at RI. She had been MIA since. There is some back story to Mikala's return. Yesterday I got a call from Hanauma Bay posse person , Betty, reporting that one of their regular morning swimmers had reported having seen 2 small seals out in the "Witches Brew to Baboon's Nose" area outside HB. This morning Betty called again to say that there had been some miscommunication in the report. Apparently, the guy said he saw a single small animal with 2 red tags. He reported those numbers as "414 and 415". That is an impossibility, however mistaking an "A" for a "4" is very easily done. There is ZERO doubt in my mind that it was anybody other than Mikala. Ever since her disappearance I'd thought that maybe Buster and/or Benny might have something to do with this. Those two were still on RI the day after my last sighting of Mikala, but it's still possible. Buster is known to hang out in that area between Hanauma Bay and Spitting Cave. Divers report him often at "Sea Cave" which is just yards from Hanauma Bay. Regardless of all of that, it was a great load off my mind to see her there on Rabbit Island.
On a pan at 1103 I found Kolohe newly hauled out to the far left end of the beach. He would remain there the rest of the day.
Team Billand put in some mileage today. They reported only Kermit, but with multiple haul out locations. It all began with a call at 0724 reporting Kermit near "Kermit's Reef" on the right side of the Nimitz Beach jetty. The next call at 0830 reported that Kermit was now hauling out near the east end fence at White Plains. Next came a call at 0931 saying that Kermit had reentered the water, and had hauled out to "Al's Bench" at Kalaeloa Campgrounds, which is the exact location where his fish hook had been removed, oh so many months ago.
