7-4-2013 DB's Dailies!!! BIG NEWS!Kainoa@RI, Kolohe@SC, Irma&Pup@AD's, Buster&Weaner@RR, Benny&Pohaku@PC

At 0649 Kimo called with the report of what would prove to be Kolohe (RW22) at Spitting Cave, doing 13 to 23 min. dives.

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 0900 I found Kainoa (RN04) fronting Right Middle Cliff.

A call from Tatiana at 0922 put the day on a whole ‘nother level. She had gotten a call reporting a Mom & Pup at AD’s at 0922. When I arrived at 0936 I found Thomas Engles & wife, along with Irma & Pup, 300 yds east of the AD’s wall. This is basically the same location as her 2011 birth. I got up a temporary cordoned and alerted the troops. Tatiana & Cianna arrive with the cavalry at 1100 and we established at full blown Pup perimeter. Irma and pup appear well. By the size and condition of the pup I’d say last night or wee hours this morning for the birth. Thank you to all who showed up today. My minds a blur, but I mos definitely appreciate your responses .

At 1038 Team Billand called from the Reef Runway to advise that Ewa Girl (RS00) had weaned her pup. The pup and Buster (RV08) were at the RR site. A weaner and birth on the same day... July 4th no less!

At 1310 the Billands called again with the report of Benny (RE74) and Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove.

So yesterday DB referred to Irma and said OIK (only Irma knows)... today Gayle and I decided DBDK (DB doesn't know)  :-)

Irma and Pup WOW! Look at that bleach mark!!!!
We'll be able to tell this kid from a mile away with that flipper tip!
Buster visiting the weaner... or was he looking for Ewa Girl
Wonder if this little girl understands what has happened
 Be gentle there Buster
 HOLY COW!!!!
 Benny woooing Miss Pohaku
enjoying a day at the beach

7-3-2013 DB's Dailies: Kolohe&Sadie@RI, Kolohe@SC, Buster,M&M@KCG, Irma@DH, Haupu@KoOlina, Ka'ena&R912@KP

At 0630 I found Kolohe (RW22) and Sadie (RB12) together , in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of 1BS, on Rabbit Island. When I got back for my 0900 RI check, they were gone.

Gayle checked in at 1059 with the report of Kolohe (RW22) at Spitting Cave.

Team Billand called at 0643 to advise that Buster (RV08) and M&M (R020) were in the shallows just off shore of Kalaeloa Campgrounds. Wallows indicated that they had probably overnighted there. The had words, and Buster took off the west. M&M remained in the waters off shore of KCG, but was no longer there on later checks.

At 0943 Colleen called to report Irma (R010) at the showers, Diamond Head.

Posse member Christian called at 1043 to report that Irma was departing. She was moving west, and looked at Beach Rd, before continuing on. She was not seen again after that. Tomorrow...OIK.

Team Billand called at 1030 to advise that they’d gotten a call about an U/U at Lagoon #4, KoOlina. They called again at 1148 to advise that posse member Diane had confirmed the Haupu (RB24) ID, by tags. Dana would call at 1305 to advise that Haupu had departed.

Kimo called at 1030 from the end of the world. He had found Ka’ena (RO40) at the runway, Ka’ena Point. On his way out, on the Waianae side trail, he found R912 at the half way point, at 1536.

Team Billand called at 1514 to report Buster (RV08) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds, by himself.

You may recall that on 6-26 Karen Bryan reported having seen Kermit (R012), on a dive off shore of Niihau. Well, Chapter #2 arrived today in the form of email from Lesley. She got word from a source familiar with the location, that on the 29th of June, "N4" was on the beach on the Lehua Rock side of Niihau. That , of course would be Kermit (R020).

There she blows!!! oops sorry Irma

7-2-2013 Tuesday Morning with Ewa Girl, Pup and Kekoa

When I arrived it looked like Kekoa was just hauling out he went up to the grass line and went into snooze mode for the entire two hours... the boy is looking mighty green.
EG and pup were in the water when I arrived, in fact I thought it was two adults... until I saw the big round white belly....
They spent about 20 minutes lolling about in the shallows.... then hauled out... the kid was looking for lunch... then the rains came... and EG galumphed up to the grassy area ... the kid followed fed some more. Once the rain subsided the both turned around facing the shore and moved down... EG stopped and buried her head and the sand... the kid kept going into the water.... seemed it dawned on mom that something was missing... she bolted for the water head erect looking for chunky monk.... they spent the rest of the time lolling about kid was attempting her diving techniques. All and all a good day except for being a little soggy.

 She's getting huge
 Roll over mom
 and then the rains came
Pup heading for water - Kekoa in foreground and EG far right
mom going after the kid... Kekoa slept through the whole thing

7-2-2013 DB's Dailies: Kolohe,Sadie&Kaiwi@RI, 2aw@EB, R5AY@Hauula, Irma@Waikiki

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 1021 I found Kolohe (RW22) and to my total shock, Sadie (RB12), together at the far left end of RI. Kolohe is newly back from his latest west side adventure. Sadie galumphed off on 4-24-13 when she weaned Kainoa, and has not be heard from since. That was 68 days ago. She should have done her post weaning molt around the 23rd of June, and the fact that she was a bare , naked lady today, confirms that. Her coat hasn’t even begun to fill in yet. I’d sure love to know where this girl has been ????? Both remained the rest of the day.

At 1025 on a pan I found what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) at Rocky Right Beach, on RI. Though only partially visible, she would remain the rest of the day.

Ewa Beach posse member Toni Russ checked in at 0716 with the report of an animal at Access #185C. He photos confirmed the 2AW ID. The Billands confirmed that he was still there on their 1218 check.

Dera called at 0829 with the report of R5AY in Hauula.

She also mentioned an animal at Lifeguard stand 2E in Waikiki. Colleen and Karen Rohter responded and confirmed the Irma (R010) ID. Once again today, just as with her last Waikiki haul out, she departed at 0921. She seems to be hauling out very late at night, and then departing in the morning. What is going on in that woman’s mind.... OIK!!!

7-1-2013 DB's Dailies: Kainoa @ RI, Irma @ DH, RL42 @KP, Ewa Girl & Pup @ RR

When I arrived at Makai Pier at 1000 I was lookin’ at an empty Rabbit Island. Even the birds were gone. Finally, at 1231 Kainoa (RN04) hauled out 60 ft left of 1BS. He would remain the rest of the day.

Colleen called at 0718 to advise that one of her posse had called about an animal at the Diamond Head showers. Colleen confirmed the Irma (R010) ID, at 0820. At 1200 a friend of Colleen’s advised her that Irma was gone.

Team Billand checked in at 1346 to advise that they had found RL42, approximately 20 minutes in on the Waianae side , Ka’ena Point trail.

The Billands called at 1407 to advise that Eileen had contacted them to report that she had observed Ewa Girl & Pup at the Reef Runway. She had seen a small boat near the area and ran them off. Ewa Girl&Pup would enter the water and the same small boat circled them in the water taking photos. Again Eileen ran them off. Thank You Eileen, Ya’ Done Good !!!
