August 5, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand featuring the stars of the day Momma Pohaku and baby Nanea PO5.

Team Billand out and about at 5:45 am, got to site to find both Mom and Pup on shore, resting and water going around them.  After a bit, Nanea got up to eat her breakfast.

Team Billand left about 6:30 to check on another critter after getting a call. It took them about an hour.  
When they got to the site they found RH92 sleeping in the same spot she's been for the last couple of days.  They hung out and educated folks who were trying to get to the seal. Team Billand met up with their friend who was upset everyone was getting too close. 
A man came jogging by within 2 feet of RH92s hind flippers, Team Billand tried to frantically wave him away, but he had a head set on and unaware of his surroundings.
Finally security came to help them and put up a zone, and Team Billand called the hotline. Team Billand left about 7:30 after volunteer Sara arrived.

Team Billand returned to Pohaku and Nanea and found the both of them in the shallows for a feed. After hanging with Mom and pup for a couple of hours Team Billand had to leave for an appointment. They returned this time at 12:30 and now Pohaku and Nanea were sleeping in the shallows. Then there was another feeding for 30 minutes.

At 3 pm things got exciting when Mom took Nanea for a rough water swim by the rocks.  The pup has learned to do deep dives with mom, holding its' breath for a longer period. Team Billand mentioned it's harder to keep track of them when they are doing these deep water dives. Amazing.

Nanea is growing fast, getting huskier, more muscles showing and face maturing, not to mention independent then again she was showing that characteristic since day one.
Pohaku and Nanea came back to birth beach to rest. Team Billand left for the day at 4 pm.

 Looks like she has a flower on her head... and of course can't ignore the milk drip
