RM38 was my first find, at 0709, on my first look at Rabbit Island. He was snoozin’ in the Morning Glory , 40 ft left of 1BS. He would later move down the water line. Also at 0709 I found Kaiwi (RK96) fronting 3BS, on RI. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0913, Kaiwi was just moving down to the water line and entered the water at 0851 to join what I thought was another seal in the water . A few minutes later it became... No ... 2 other animals , then no....... 3 other animals, then no...... 4 other animals. Lo & Behold I had 5 critters all playing in the near shore waters. At 0936 all began to haul out. It would prove to be Aukai (RL12), Kolohe (RW22), Mojo (RI17), Kaiwi (RK96) & Kainoa (RN04).
At 1236 Cianna called with the report of "Kea" (ID by bleach number), at Pele’s Chair. When I my tired bones arrived at 1301 I confirmed the Kea (RN46) ID, amongst the rocks below Pele’s Chair. This marks the furthest travels to the east for the kid.
Team Billand called at 0625 with the report of Kermit (R012), Makaiwi (R4DF) & Benny (RE74) fronting #1708, White Plains. Benny departed at 0630, only to return at 1114.
While finding Kea at Pele’s Chair was a biggy , the highlight of the day had to begin with a call from Cianna at 0743, followed by a call from Dana, followed by a call from Diane G all reporting R5AY in Hauula ! ! According to my notes she had last been seen on 10-22-13. Diane characterized her as " really fat with no neck, and really, really green". HOOORAYYYY!!!!
Diane G would check in again at 1159, having done the Turtle Bay/Kahuku trek , and finding Kaikaina (RL54) at "the elbow", TB .
At 1413 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Electric Beach.
At 1656 the Billands reported the arrival of Buster (RV08) to #1708.
At some point (I don’t remember the time), Team Billand adivised that Eileen had called to report T21M at the Reef Runway.
Kea at Pele's Chair ... little tummy is sagging between the rocks... he needs to do some crunches
