Monk Seal Count Day

A message from Dana Jones HMSRTOs' Response Coordinator:

Aloha All Volunteers,
The 10th Bi-Annual Seal Count is upon us and this looks like it is going to be one of our most successful counts to date, (seal cooperation needed).
Over 65 people have signed up, which is a record for participation. Many of you are still on weaner duty, many of you are pulling double duty. Participation this year for Seal Count is coming from many venues. Ocean Awareness Training students have been offered Seal Count as part of their field certification. We have students from UH, HPU, and some last minute sign ups from environmental tourists, and many new volunteers that have been caught up in the efforts needed to help in the recovery of the HMS.
Everyone please be safe out there. The weather report is a bit of a rainy forecast, so please make sure you have good footwear (a real close subject to my heart at the moment), sunscreen, ponchos if you don't appreciate our liquid sunshine, water water water, cell phones to communicate with your zone leaders, cameras, binoculars, garbage bags and gloves if you wish.
Most of all bring your kuleana and love for this beautiful place and the animals that live here. Mahalo nui loa for your participation in this 10th Bi-Annual Monk Seal Count from the Hawaiian Monk Seal Response Team of Oahu.
Thanks, Dana
