At 6:30 am Team Billand with great relief found RH48 Lei Ola at a west side location. Her lovely white belly was visible on the rocks and they got her ID. Last time they saw her she had a line in her mouth. They called the hotline and a call into NOAA.
Volunteer Melina arrived on site just after they had called the hotline. They both agreed that Lei Ola no longer "hooked" that they can see, no fishing line coming from her mouth.
To the right of Miss Lei Ola there was another seal. This would be ID'd as Ka'ale RH32. He was moving around a lot, not keeping still. He graced them with a good poop and pee before he left at 8:30 am. Lei Ola remained when they both left the site.
Barbara returned to check on Lei Ola at 10:30. She is looking healthy no stress just relaxing. Barb noticed a half cookie scar under her neck area, already healed.
Robert of Team Billand arrived KoOlina to find Pohaku on day 7 of her molt. Barbara decided to hang back with the other seals. Robert reported Pohaku RO28 is about 49% molted. Today was away from the Naupaka Bushes when he arrived and alert.
There was a zone already set up really close, so Robert made an
adjustment. They called and reported to the hotline. Robert left the site at 8:40 am.
Just before 9 am at another west side location Team Billand got a call about two seals. They walked the coastline and finally arrived where there was one seal. There were some people there that mentioned the other seal had left about 30 minutes before. They were able to ID RH92 Nalani, alert and kept galumphing further up where there were a few orange cones.
Team Billand decided to do the Ka'ena West trek, but made a quick stop before they left. They spotted a "bright belly" through some rocks. They weren't sure who it was so they made the trek down and to their delight they ID'd RL20 Kalua snoozing his little handsome heart away.
Off to Ka'ena West they spotted some people just coming up the cliff taking more photos, (hint hint) When Barb went to check herself there was RN14 Kalani slumped over the rocks, tags showing.
Their next find on the trek was RW02 PvKauai sleeping in the water, submerged like a hippo. RW02 suddenly jumped up and vocalized at something. Team Billand watched and looked but could not figure out what he reacted to. Finally he settled in and continued his siesta.
At 2:30 on their return trip from Ka'ena West trek they spotted a fat, pretty healthy seal on the rocks. It was RL42 Leia snoozing alone.
