October 3, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Team T&D, and Melody.

Team T&D went out to Ka'ena Point today. Their first find was Luana RN58 at Hidden Beach.
Second on the list was RIP RR70 in a little sandy cove after Hidden Beach.
Third on the list was PvKauai RW02 in Ka'ena's pool, and seems to
be exactly where Lesley saw him yesterday.  Their fourth and final find was RN14 Kalani on the flats.

Team Billand found Pohaku RO28 at KoOlina this morning. They arrived just after 6:30 am they spotted Pohaku way up by the naupaka bushes. It appears she spent the night and the signs were still up.  They can see her molt is progressing on her chest, and they also noticed a lot of red ants on her face gathering near her eyes.

It rained pretty hard so they left by 8 am, and returned when the sun came out.  When they returned a volunteer was on site and Pohaku had moved down to the waters edge.
Team Billand left KoOlina for the day at 10:30.

Just after 11:30 Team Billand found RG28 Lefty sleeping alone at a west side location.  Just across of him past the rocks was a boat with lots of nets. Always scary seeing so many nets so close to the seals.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena west when they found a new critter.  It was sleeping in a little pond at Ka'ena West. Barbara studied but didn't recognize, until she sees the tag RL70. This is a little female born this year on Molokai. First time Team Billand got to meet her.

It appears RH92 Nalani had enough of KoOlina and has returned to the beach near the construction site. She was out on the rocks alone resting peacefully.  There was a volunteer there earlier to check on her.

Melody sent word that not surprisingly Rocky returned this afternoon. She was snoozing in the same location just a bit further down.   Melody said there had been some reports of sharks in the cover yesterday, hopefully Rocky will stay clear of them.  She is looking well and very green.
Security was called and signs were put up.  The hotline was informed after she was ID'd .
Melody wasn't able to stay too long this evening, but there are some new residents that are now new Rocky fans. They decided to keep an eye on her and are enjoying learning about their new beach guest.  Kudos to Ken and Addison for being new seal friends and taking the time to learn about our beloved endangered monks seals.
