I was fortunate today to come across two bathing beauties at Kaimana's today. It was a last minute decision to run into Honolulu today for an errand. While there I thought I would take a ride to see if Miss Kaiwi was around today, but instead I found these two bathing beauties. What I knew at the site was one very healthy female older coat looks like she is starting her molt. No tags seen. The other critter was a male, older coat no tags seen and other than that I had not much to go on.
The life guard said they had spent the night and when he arrived in the morning they were way up by the wall. My "guess" was this was Rocky but I was going to need help.
Shortly before I left a volunteer arrived on site, so there was no need to call it in.
When I got home the pictures were sent to my monk seal ohana and word is, the female was Rocky and male was Buster.
Team Billand was out to Paradise Cove at 6 am. When they arrived they found Benny RE74 snoozing mid beach all alone. They spoke to security and there were signs out.
At 6:30 Team Billand went over to check on Pohaku who is spending day 8 at KoOlina. When they arrived she had already moved down to the water, sleeping and footprints going right up to her. There were lots of kids to the right yelling and making lots of noise. Team Billand called security who came and put up ropes.
They spent time educating lots of people in the early morning who all heard the news about the loss of Nanea. Most had seen on facebook or heard it on the news.
At 8:30 Pohaku entered the water, rubbed against the boulders, headed to the buoys, then out to sea where Team Billand could see her foraging.
Team Billand left at 9:30 and she was still foraging.
At 10 am Team Billand found RH92 Nalani foraging at a location that isn't the best place for her to be. There was construction taking place lots of loud pounding, At one point it looked like she was going to haul out, but she aborted the haul out and the workers were still pounding metal.
Team Billand did a recheck in the afternoon and she was gone from the area.
At 1:30 Team Billand found RL42 Miss Leia was on the rocks napping alone peacefully. When they returned from their Ka'ena West trek she was in the same spot.
Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and saw two green males. One was RWO2 pvKauai and the other was Ka'ena RO40. Ka'ena's transmitter scar and cookie scar was visible.
The two boyz were having an argument, they would fight, rest, spar, vocalize and rest... over and over. Ka'ena was bugging RW02 causing havoc, I'm thinking it sounds like my puppies.
Team Billand's last seal of the day was at 4 pm at a west side location. They found RH32 Ka'ale snoozing on the rocks, mid section alone. His tags were visible. He is one very big boy!
