Went down at first light this morning and saw a seal hauled out at CE Pt - it was an overnight R303 "BG". She may be starting her molt, looked like she had some bare spots on her side, but then they could be water/sand marks.
I also got to ID RN58 "Luana" sleeping peacefully at the waters edge @ Hidden Beach. She has quite a few matting scratches on her back and sides.
I was the first person to see him after his birth. He was fighting his way back up to mom, after being washed by a wave at birth. He still had half of his body covered with the placenta, but made it up to mom like a water spring coming out of the sea - "Puna". Hawaiian tradition was respected choosing his nickname. thank you Lesley for explaining the meaning behind Puna's name. <3
More tomorrow
