Lesley's Ka'ena Update is part 2 of the dailies. Happy to hear the ole' Saturday gang is back together.
I'll start todays blog by saying Kaiwi's boy from last year was the star of the day. First email I got from posse pal Paul who spotted RK24 at Lanai Lookout when he went for a dive.
Marilyn did the Ka'ena trek, but when she got back to the eastside to stopped to check if there were any seals at the lookout or flats. And "Lo and Behold" there was RK24, (Kaiwi's pup April 23, 2018). He was higher up and further towards the tunnel leading to the flats than most seals have gone. He is looking quite green (hmmm wonder if he's one of the greenies seen on Rabbit Island).
Well that isn't all, there was yet another RK24 sighting (by accident) on the video that Sandra B sent in. She was watching and filming the whales off Lanai Lookout and guess what? At the end of her video clip you'll see the little peanut. So all and all RK24 is the star of the day.
At 9ish this morning Team Billand spotted two seals on the west side on high rock. It took them a few minutes to figure it out but finally they determined it was Kekoa Alii RK72 with R3CU. Both seals remain in same place all through out the day as well as their last check at 5:30 pm.
While at the site they see one more seal to the right. There was RN14 Kalani alone with his applied bleach visible. Then RN14 was on the move climbing up on the rocks seems he noticed before Tam Billand noticed another seal. Lei Ola RH48 pulls up next to RN14 Kalani. He sees her and just goes back to sleep. (WHAT?)
But then Team Billand all of a sudden sees three seals. Lei Ola and RH36 Kawena quickly up on the rocks and there went RN14 chasing after both of them Kawena gets away followed by Lei Ola.
Next check: Lei Ola was in a pond with RN14 and little Kawena moved to the bottom right alone.
All the animals remained in the same spots on their last check.
Last stop of the day at another west side site, they found two more seals together. RIP RR70 was just arriving and RL42 Leia was already there enjoying her rest on her back. Both are fine looking healthy, RIP moved to the left of her is when Team Billand decided to keep their spot safe by leaving.
