Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies, she had an very unusual and exciting sighting today.
Our pal from Kauai shared some photos today of Kauai's first born for 2019 PK1 RBOO's boy. I can't believe how big this boy has become in such a short time. Look out world he's getting ready.
Marilyn did the Ka'ena trek this morning with Lesley, so her early morning sightings are the same as Lesleys update part 2 of the dailies.
After Marilyn finished that part of her seal searching day, she left to check some of the west side locations. She met up with Team Billand and they found a group of seals hanging out. One of the seals was RIP RR70, Barbara made the comment how nice it was to spend time with Marilyn but also to talk story about RIP. He was Marilyn and DB's first born son on Rabbit Island, hence the name RIP (Rabbit Island Pup) back in time when naming was a simple task.
After leaving Team Billand Marilyn did the Ka'ena West trek and at the 30 mark she spotted a seal on the rocks. She was able to confirm this bathing beauty ID as RL42 Leia on her way out. Female belly, line scar near LFF and he L43 tag.
Team Billand hitting up the westside beach got to the site and found Kawena RH36 snoozing on the rocks alone. She seems to enjoy hanging out here. Next to arrive was one of the elders from her side of the island RIP. He came in fast almost undetected, there he was galumphing up on high rocks.
Shortly after Kekoa RK72 was next and hauled in, RIP reacted to his arrival letting him know keep moving bud. Kekoa was respectful and stayed left of RIP.
On their next visit RIP had moved to lower rocks and was alone.
RW02 PvKauai was the last seen coming in. While Team Billand was photographing Kawena they saw a head appear looking right at Kawena. They ID RW02 and he was very respectful and went to the water hole without bothering her. Such a gentleman.
One of the earlier stops on the westside, Team Billand spotted RH92 resting on her side. There were
some locals close by who used yellow tape to zone her off. Although it is appreciated, the yellow tape is alway one of those things that can easily draw attention, however there are times when it certainly is better than nothing. RH92 tags were showing and she was resting peacefully. Team Billand called the hotline right away since she was located so close to some campers.
In the afternoon when Team Billand caught up with Marilyn they checked out a different westside location together sand spotted RN14 Kalani sleeping facing the ocean, water hitting him They were able to make a quick ID and just like that Kalani took off diving off the rocks. They never saw him again. Ahhh timing is everything.
