At 0805 I found Buster (RV08) at the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. I cordoned him off. He has remained the rest of the day. Buster departed at 1845. Thank you Gayle !
At 1122 I found Cass (RG06) just hauling out to the left end rock flats on Rabbit Island. She would remain there the rest of the day, only moving up with the rising tide.
At 1010 Diane Gabriel called with the report of R5AY , once again in Hauula. Her photos confirm 85% molted. She advised that R5AY was gone on her 1620 check on the way home.
Diane’s next call, at 1130 brought the highlight of the day, if an U/U can be called a highlight. She called while on Ola duty at Turtle Bay, to advise that she had just had a “drive by”, with the animal heading in a Kahuku Pt direction. She reported seeing an “N7...something” bleach, mid back. There is only 1, N7 something in the family, and that would be our little 3 year old female Kaiwi (RK96), sporting an N72 bleach on her back.
Unless Diga comes up with a miracle find, this will have to be carried as an U/U, however Kaiwi is not beyond the realm of possibility, since her last sighting was at RI on 6-11. When she was confirmed on the Mokes on 5-17 it became clear that our little girl’s horizons were expanding. Anything is possible, but only Kaiwi knows. Evening email from Diane describes the bleach she saw, and it sure sounds like Kaiwi. I’ve sent her some shots for comparison. She advised that it looked likely that the bleach is what she saw but ???? wow this will be something... can't wait to see where she ends up....
Team Billand reported a thankfully rare “skunked” day,
