At 0929 Cass (RG06) hauled out to the left end rock flats. She spent the entire day way out at the end of the flats , in fact further out than I’ve ever seen an animal before. She snoozed a bit but seem to spent lots of time foraging in the tide pools.
At 1318 on a pan I found what would prove to be La’akea (RK82) snoozin’ on the left end flats.
Though it was an off & on rainy day an totally overcast , it was still a fun day, spent with NOAA intern, Sam (Samantha) Murphy, who is here for the summer.
She also provided material for the Yesterday’s News department. On her Ka’ena Point trek yesterday, she found Ka’ena (RO40), RW02,RK36 & Luana (RN58) . Photos will be coming soon.
Melanie Chun checked in at 1253 with the report of an animal at Lanai Lookout cove. The animal would prove to be Kolohe (RW22), when Melanie’s shots were checked against the Kolohe photo database. He is a piece of cake from the right side with his natural bleach, but from the left it’s a much more difficult task.
Evening email from Diane Gabriel brought a report & photos of R5AY just beyond Kahuku Pt. (She did not see Ola today). She and Karen Turner then continued on the 3 Tables, where they, once again from RI37 amongst the adhoring hordes.
Team Billand called at 0921 with the report of Kimo Kai (RT12) at Nanakai Beach, Maili.
An 1847 DanaTxt advised that Nihoa was reported back in the canal on the westside.
