9-14-11 Turtle Bay Update Day 48

Aloha good people;
Today's update from Turtle Bay comes from Karen Turner's morning shift and Auntie Lesley's afternoon/evening shift. We all know the time is close R5AY will be weaning La'akea.... From the looks of it Honey Girl is looking really thin.... she needs to go and get a good meal.... She is a good mom providing lots of nourishment for her pups to become mini tanks.... and feisty enough they are ready to fight off anything. To all the volunteers its been wonderful having you there, and I don't think its quite over.... but we are nearing the end.

Thank you Karen!
Nice shot swimming in the waves
Auntie Lesley on afternoon shift catches up with mom and pup
Okay Honey Girl looking pretty depleted ... time to find some food
And we have La'akea looking VERY healthy!
Liking this shot... mom and pudgy
Nice overhead shot showing the differences in size
Anyone want to comment on the dark patch on her butt.... not a bleach mark....
Going in for a swim... question is.... is this the one?
Lesley last saw La'akea swimming on her own, when she left the site... she did not see R5AY
Sunset...

Thank you Karen.
I'm loving doing the dawn patrols at AD (35days in a row), dawn & sunrises are magical, as are the sunsets at TB. Drives home with the full Moon and seeing it smilling at us in the early morning.
I've been trying to share with all of you.
The spot on La'a Kea was a wet spot cause she was on the water line and one of the waves had splashed her.
Comments on the photos are from the blog lady

Karen Turner called me this morning at 7ish to say that the pup was alone.
So the photo of mom & pup in the shallow is the last one of them together. Mom was giving the little one a schmoozy before leaving.
It has all been a very special experience.
Aloha, Lesley

So long R5AY, Honeygirl. Thanks for giving birth to a beautiful GIRL,Laakea. She has grown to be such a huge hippo, ready for her life, ready to face all the challenges that are about to come. You have stood by her since July 28th, fed her daily many times, went for swims to explore her areas. Now she must fend for herself and reading about her attitude, she will do just fine. You take care, hide from them guys, so you can have a year of rest and relaxation. You're a fantastic mom...Ya Done Good. Safe Journey Miss R5AY!!!!!!!
