Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:25 to 1:15 and she had a interesting day. Initially there were two seals, but my the end of her time there were five.
Seal 1 - Adult female: adult to subadult size, light female belly and unsure about tags. She had just come down from the dunes about 40 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS.
Another 50 feet towards SRI was Seal 2 - Adult Male: large adult size, dark coat, dark gray male belly. She did not see any tags, and this seal may have a pit scar in the middle of the right dorsal area.
About 12:10, Marilyn became aware of several seal heads bobbing off shore near Seal 2. There were three new arrivals hauled out on the waterfront, but soon returned to the water with Seal 2 A/M in pursuit.
At 12:30, four seals hauled out not to far from Seal 1 A/F. There were lots of moving around among the five of them. Seal 2 stayed on the waterfront rocks when he returned until he left for good at 1 pm.
Seal 3 - Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light gray female belly and at least two red tags.
Seal 4 - Adult Male, which she believes to be RK24 Bruno: subadult to adult size, light yellowish tan male belly, two red tags and a scar on the right side about 1/3 of the way from rear flippers.
Seal 5 - Subadult Female: subadult size, light gray female belly and unsure about tags.
Team R&B started out seeing whales which made them very happy. Then way out there at tracks they found R604. She was alone and she finally hauled in. ( alittle info on R604; she was first seen in 2021 on Kauai as a sub-adult. Last year she was seen on Niihua, Kauai and Oahu, other than that not much is known other than she has a lot of scars.)
Later they did another check of the area and this time R604 had company. They hurried over for the ID and found R3CU with R604.
Earlier while watching the whales they saw that the Akule boats were out. It was a nail biter since therewere two seals hanging close to the boat and net. They could not get anything on who the two seals were. Fingers crossed they did not get into any trouble.
Team R&B decided to check out paradise cove and found two seals were on shore. Thankfully a volunteer was on site with ropes and signs. They ID'd RK72 Kekoa Alii and RG28 Lefty.
They looked over at secrets and did not see any seals. But then they were able to find one. There was RN14 Kalani alone on the reef, snoozing. They called the hotline.
At another west side location they found two seals. There was RP30 Puka at seal inlet and Kala RH76 was in the shallows at lower rocks.
