Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Melody.
Team Billand found little RL20 Kalua at the outfall this morning. He was not alone, Miss Aukai RL12 was with him foraging in the outfall.
At 10:30 they headed over to another westside location and found Kekoa Alii RK72 on lower rocks trying to snooze. Unfortunately the waves kept him from getting a decent sleep. He's about 15% molted. RH76 Kala was high mid rocks. She suddenly turned to face the water and Team Billand saw another seal pop up with her. It was RG28 Lefty coming in. It was nice to see him around again.
At noon Team Billand headed over to the bay. RN44 was on the rocks snoozing and alone. A little
while later they noticed a line coming from his mouth, right side corner. They did not see a hook. They immediately called the hotline. They did their best to discourage people from going by the seal and not to disturb him. Team Billand sent photos to NOAA and HMAR It's been a rough year for hookings. The only good part of this was RN44 didn't seem to be in distress, no thrashing, he was just sleeping. At 1 pm Ka'ale was seen foraging at the bay near the jetty, stealing fish. He eventually made his way upon the rocks just to left of N44. He cautiously settled in.
At 1:30 Lei Ola RH48 came right in, looked around and hauled up next to RN44. He looked the nuzzled, settled down by each other. Kaale shuffled over to her, there was no reaction, so the trio snoozed together.
Melody was in the city today checking on her white terns, when she heard from a friend that Kaiwi was in her favorite spot. When she arrived Kaiwi was hugging her wall and a volunteer was on site. There were a lot of people on the beach today along with a few dogs. Melody mentioned Kaiwi was visited by a Hawaiian gentleman who chanted a blessing over her and all the monk seals. Melody described it as a very special moment for all that were there to witness.
