12/04/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are by Team Billand and Melody. Actually Melody sent an email from Wednesday so its a little more than yesterday's news.

On Wednesday Melody went to Waikiki to check out Kaiwi RK96 who was hauled out in her favorite spot. She is looking healthy and resting comfortably. Volunteer was on site and a zone was set up. The beach was not too busy and people were being respectable. Melody stayed through the afternoon.

Team Billand arrived at the bay early morning got to see a beautiful sunrise and the dolphins were

heading in. They spotted two seals who turned out to be Lei Ola RH48 and RN44. At first they were foraging and then there was some play. N44 went around the Heiau and disappeared.

At noon they spotted Ka'ale RH32 coming in.  Lei Ola gave him the what for, and they went off foraging together.  Team Billand actually captured  Lei Ola eating an Akule. We all know Ka'ale was stuffing his face. The two of them were having a feast.

At 10 am they arrived at another west side beach and found sweet little N4 snoozing alone on shore. They notified the folks at NOAA. N4 was on the sand, signs were up, Team Billand made a couple of adjustments.  Team Billand called the hotline and that folks were in the area.

At 2:00 Team Billand found three critters at another location. Leina RL70 was hidden behind the rocks. She was in deep sleep mode. RL20 Kalua was on lower rocks, snoozing alone. The line is still there.  It took Team Billand some effort to get a tag shot of R3CX Nalu. He looked comfy in his hidden spot as well.  Seems he pigs out at the bay and comes here to rest.

After leaving the trio they went to look for Kekoa RK72. They found him at another location snoozing. They were not able to see his molt progress since he was on his belly. He is looking big and healthy.

Last check at the bay they found Lei Ola and RN44 were fighting/playing ocean side of the jetty. She fought, he barked at her and lots of splashing. None of them landed just foraged and fought. Just when they were ready to leave Ka'ale was foraging by the jetty.
