At 5:40am Team Billand checked Makaha Surfing Beach and spotted a seal in the dark. They took a couple of pictures not wanting to disturb him or attract attention from any of the folks in their cars. They ID da Benny and he apparently spent the night and got a good long rest. Team Billand called the siting into the hotline.
At 6:20 am Team Billand found Pohaku RO28 at Paradise Cove all the way up in the left corner. They put the signs up and used some rope they had in the car. They called the hotline a couple of times. There were lots of people out and about today. There was a close call when a dog got almost got away from it's owner while they were taking a picture. Thankfully it all worked out. At 10:15 volunteer Molly arrived and Team Billand left to continue their daily trek.
At Maili Lei Ola RH48 continues to molt still hiding in the rocks. Her location makes it hard to see her at times but she finally moved out of the top rock and came down a bit.
Team Billand spotted RIP RR70 foraging off shore doing 5 minute dives. They hung around for over an hour hoping he would haul out, but he never did. On their afternoon check he was gone and never found him again.
Barbara saw two more animals "fighting" off shore, coming towards the rocks. One landed, it was RN14. He galumphed his way up on the rocks and went right to sleep. Afternoon check he was still there on the same rocks. Barbara commented he's a handsome fella, kind of like a young Benny. He's grown up into a mighty seal going back and forth between Oahu and Molokai. We're happy he comes to Oahu so often.
Posse pal Gayle found a very healthy robust Kaiwi RK96 at Kokee flats. We're hoping she stays on this side for a bit and away from Kaimana Beach and the wrecked boat until they get it out of there.
There were two critters on Rabbit Island today, no IDs possible. And lastly Gayle hung out with Right Spot at Sandys. Right Spot left at 17:45.
