8-16-11 DB Dailes and more

Lets begin with 1930 yesterday evening when Dana called with the report of an animal in Waikiki......again ! Colleen responded and confirmed Rocky (RH58). She duly cordoned, and coned off the critter and she remained until 2200.

I joined Rocky at 0530 this morning, approximately 150 yds east of her last Waikiki haul out. I adjusted the cordon and remained with her until her departure at 1052. Of course she began to move down at 0830, giving me hope, and then dashing those hopes by rolling on to her back at 0842, and remaining another 2 hours.

Lesley called at 0550 to advise that she and Marilyn were at AD's with Irma & pup, on D#5, and that all was fine. Through the day Mom and pup ventured down to the water front rock flats and lolled in the tide pools, but that was it for getting wet. I got to AD's at 1245 to join Tammy briefly, and later with Donna. Irma & pup moved up with the rising tide, and activity appeared unremarkable.

I did a quicky visit to Makai Pier at 1315 to check on the Rabbit Island gang. I found Nani (RK60) at the left end of the beach, and a D#6, 60% molted Duke (RA12), along side a D#3, 10% molted Kolohe (RW22) on the water front rocks at Seal Rock inlet. My photos were crap, so I'll spare you the pain.

Team Billand checked in at 0705 to advise that T21M, and the Fender were both at Iroquois Point. Apparently Navy guys showed up today to assess, and make a plan, but it's still there.

The Billands found RIP (RR70) at Maili Point at 0745.

They also spent 1000 to 1200 with Kekoa out on the Reef Runway. The kid is lookin' pudgy and well. The security folks say that T21M had been out there the last 3 days, on the same piece of sand, but well apart.

Rocky @ Waikiki  "eh whats the big deal"
Who turned on the lights can't a woman get some rest?
It's getting a little crowded here
But before I go.... look at my beautiful new coat.... aren't I gorgeous
okay got to skedaddle... thank you all for coming.
How do I get out of here?
T21M and Fender @ Iroquois Point
They're stumped too!
 RIP @ Maili

It was awesome to see the Military out there today. We been waiting a long time, 4 to 5 days now.
All three men were super polite, understood our concerns, discussed their strategy in getting that monster Fender out of Iroquios Pt Lagoon. It was decided, the Fender could not be removed by pulling it out of Lagoon. It is said to be 5,000 lbs, came from area of Missouri possibly as it says FOXTROT 13! It is 16 x 10 feet in size, a whopper of a Fender. And pulling it out to sea, that would cause great damage to the reefs out there. The other way out would be...by land. A crane, a flatbed truck and Man power. For now, until they decide the best removal method, they will tie the Fender up to the coconut and banyan tree to secure it.
And we had T21M show up for a long nap at the Lagoon per Clay Gates. Clay set up the cordon immediately. When the Military guys arrived, they were checking out T21M and found him a cool dude.
There was a ray of hope today when these fine gentlemen came over. And one of em, John, the contractor said to tell Lesley McFearson, HI!!! He said he knows her. So....HI LESLEY!!!!

So..shortly this monster Fender will be gone for good...hope to be there on that exciting removal day. Yipppeeee. Lagoon closed for two days now, too dangerous to enter Lagoon, someone could get hurt or crushed with that thing.
