8-15-11 DB Dailies

At 0545 I arrived at AD's to find Irma (R010) and Pup, on D#4, waiting for me. Though I was in and out all day, by fellow worker bees advised that they moved down to the water front rocks and lounged in the tide pools all day, and began moving up with the rising tide.

At 0730 "Jack at the Bay" called to advise that there were 2 animals on the left side rock flats at Hanauma Bay. When I arrived at 0745 I found Ewa Girl (0750), being attended by a 9 yr. old male, RE70. The male would galumph to the water at 0835 and swam fronting Ewa Girl for a while, before giving up hope and departing out the channel at 0842. Ewa Girl would depart at 0940.

Some interesting factoids on both. Ewa Girl has owned the left side rock flats for many years, but had not been to that location since her last visit on 9-10-10.

RE70 is a 9 yr. old male, born at Kalaupapa, Molokai on 7-7or8-2002. He was dubbed "Tiny Bubbles" at birth. I absolutely refuse to do that..... he's RE70 to me. He has two documented previous visits to Oahu. The first came on 1-21-07 at Ka'ena Point, by the legendary Karen Harris. The next came on a visit to Rabbit Island on 11-5-10 by the not nearly as legendary DB.

I finally got to Makai Pier for Rabbit Island observations at 1120. I found a D#5, 50% molted Duke (RA12) at Seal Rock Inlet, and next to him, Kolohe (RW22), on D#2 , 5% molted . On a routine pan at 1136 I realized that the suspicious looking rock 10 ft right of the boys, was Nani (RK60).

Team Billand checked in at 1022 with the report of RIP (RR70)... Irma's 1st born, at Maili Point.

I got several emails concerning the fender at Iroquois Point. Though nothing has been accomplished, lots of people, and agencies are talking about it, and what baby steps that have been accomplished are a direct result of Team Billand's pesistance in not letting the situation get swept under the rug . Way to go Billands !!!!!!

Dera did a Turtle Bay trip today, and provide shots of Mom & Pup. Thank You Dera.

Team Billand responded to an 1850 call from Dera, and at 1905 found, and dealt with Benny (RE74) on the beach behind the Princess Condo in Makaha.

As if that isn't bad enough an email and phone call from Dana at 1930, advised of an animal newly hauled out fronting lifeguard stand 2C in Waikiki. Colleen is on her way to assess. No word yet, but my dollar is most definitely on Rocky.

I received a really interesting email from Tracy who is on Molokai, tagging pups, at Kalaupapa. She advises that Lona (R017) is near weaning her pup.

She also says that Right Spot (R016) is there, but doesn't appear to be pregnant. I guess she is just visiting with the other girls.

For myself , the most interesting tidbit is her report that Buster (RV08), hanging out with a large , unidentified male. I last saw Buster on 8-9-11 at Rabbit Island. He has not been reported at Molokai before, but I'm not at all surprised to hear the news. The rest of the RI boys had discovered the Molokai chicks already, so why shouldn't Buster get in on the game?

Ewa Girl and RE70 @ Hanauma Bay
 A Tale of Two Tails
Benny @ Princess Condo Makaha - hanging out while the families fish
 Gorgeous Colors
Ummmm we're a little too close there
A tiny step in the right direction... but knowing first hand Team Billand "got" the attention of enough people to  have a lot of chatter going on this weekend... Again thank you... Every little bit helps.
 RIP @ Maili

Cool shots of Ewa Girl and her new guy following her on land..amazing how far in land seals go..and how they can galumph around, I can hear the plop plop plop of them looking at the photos. Wow, this male came from Molokai to get Ewa Girl? Desperate huh?
And look how that male is waiting and peeking over the rocks for Ewa Girl! Cute.
How can one not love these seals, they are so entertaining.
