8-1-11 DB Dailies

At 0632 I found Kolohe (RW22) and Duke (RA12) snoozin' together, up in the Morning Glory, behind Seal Rock Inlet. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0840 they had moved down to the water line at Seal Rock Inlet, where they spent the rest of the day.

On a pan at 0912 I found Nani (RK60) newly hauled out to the rock flats at Left Middle Cliff, on RI. She remained there all day.  At 1105, Buster (RV08) hauled out 60 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet and immediately galumphed down to join Kolohe &Duke. There was minimal interaction, and all 3 remained there the rest of the day.

Marilyn (Mrs. Whisperer) stopped by Diamond Head on her way to work at 0812, and advised that both Rocky (RH58) and Max (R5EW) were gone. Dana was there also.

I called Rachel and asked her to check the Black Point end of the beach, and she did so, reporting nobody. At 0931 Rachel called to advise that Rocky was, once again at her usual spot near the showers at DH. No sign of Max.

At 1104 Team Billand checked in to advise that they were responding to a call from a posse member about an animal at Paradise Cove, KoOlina. At 1219 they confirmed the Irma (R010) ID.

At 1445 posse member Alice called to advise that she and hubby had spent the day with R5AY & Pup at Turtle Bay. Photos are on the way .

One of the great joys of my work here at the Monk Seal CIA is finding pieces of information like this YouTube find from today. Sometime within the last 19 hrs, a diver met Kermit , somewhere off shore of Niihau. Despite the idiocacy of the heading of "being kissed my a female monk seal", I can assure you that this is most definitely and very Male, Kermit (R4DG) doin' the kissin' . He was last seen on 6-4-11 at Kermit's Reef. He is known to make trips up that way, and I knew if I hung in there long enough, this moment would come. Kermit is happy and well, and kissin' dummies at Niihau ! (video posted below)

I want to thank the folks at Paradise cove from Security to the Owners, to the workers there. you are great folks, you were so kind to cancel the drums ceremony to keep Irma on shore. To cancel the Canoe show...We appreciate that!!! Miss Irma was able to snooze in peace. I dont know what time she finally left the sight, but thanks for putting the equipment on the side for us. Rob and I appreciate all your help with this seal who is so Pregnant and due soon. She been just hanging in the area for along time, she likes it there, we do too. It is a great spot.
We did have one ding dong who had to go close for a shot of the turtle with one flipper and Miss Irma, and we were trying to remove the guy, but, he had to do his thing. We finally got him out of zone, gave him the EDUCATION talk. Bah!!! And one small kid ran up to Irma, thinking she was an inflatable, THATS WHAT DAD SAID. Other than that the day went good and Irma got a much needed rest.
We found the tiny paper umbrella on shore, put it over Irma to get a funny shot. Just for fun. It took a long time to manuever the Umbrella which is like two inches big. We got to have a little fun out there. Again, THANKS TO PARADISE COVE FOLKS...you are most appreciated.

Barbara,
Were you the volunteer that was out at Ko'olina on Monday 8/1/2011? I was out there that day and was so excited to see my first Monk Seal here in Hawaii. We are military who have been stationed here 4 years. I was the only taking pics with my phone and talking to you all (redish-blonde hair). How is Irma? I am just checking in on her. It was neat to find this site!

Hi there Michelle, nice to hear about your first experience with a monk seal who was very Pregnant...MISS IRMA. If you came when she was there, near the Luau area, that was us. Do you know the time of night Irma left? We had to leave at 6pm. We been covering all the coastal areas, including Paradise cove for Miss Irma. We havent been able to locate her. If you see her, call NOAA at 220 7802 as soon as possible to keep her safe from folks getting too close to her. OK??? Keep your eyes opened now, take care Michele!!! Seal ya...b

Barbara,
I did come while Irma was near the Luau area. I left around 4 so I didn't see her depart. I will definitely call the number you left in your message if I see her. I hope you all find her soon :)
Blessings,
Michelle

Hey Michelle, guess what...today Aug 3rd, Benny showed up at Paradise cove. He was on the rocks, left at 5:15pm. Thanks for your looking out for Irma, we can use all the help in locating her to protect her stay, where ever she is. Take care Michelle, appreciate your conversation and care of our seals.
