April 30, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 2:10 and there were five seals seen during that time.
Initially on LPB was an Unknown Adult: dark coat, no visible markers, not sure about tags or sex. The UA entered the water about 12:42 when Marilyn spotted a UJ off shore. The UA then cruised down the shore in the Makapuu direction. At 1:43 pm the UA approached RF34 and PO3 in the water. RF34 Pua charged at the UA who left and moved further down the shore, hauling out on the
waterfront rocks between 3BS and SRI.
RF34 Pua and PO3 were in the water off shore until they hauled out about 12:38 pm between Middle Cliff and 3BS. After a snooze and a nursing session, mom and pup reentered the water about 1:39 pm. It was a short time later that the UA approached them. Marilyn noted she was happy to see Mom and pup spending quality time in the water.
Amount waterfront rocks about 20 feet Lanikai of the 3BS was a Sub-adult Male: small sub-adult size, light male belly, and unsure about tags.
Initially between 3BS and SRI was an Unknown Juvenile: juvenile size, unsure about tags or sex. The UJ entered the water about 12:20 and cruised down the shore in the Lanikai direction where the UJ was seen off the water from the SM and ultimately the UA at LPB. Marilyn then lost sight of the UJ.

Team R&B had a very very slow day.  They only found one seal. Kalua RL20 was alone resting on the rocks. They saw someone in the area so they didn't stay as they didn't want to draw any attention to
him.
The only other finds for them today was a wild turkey, certainly not something you see everyday,  They also saw some crabs hanging out in a discarded shrimp container. It would be funny if it weren't for the fact it was wild life interacting with litter.

April 29, 2024 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 1:45 and there were four seals seen during that time.
Out on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB was what Marilyn believes to be the same Sub-adult Female that was there yesterday. Sub-adult to adult size, tan female belly with some darker splotches, two red tags.
RF34 Pua and PO3 were swimming for over a half hour at the beginning of Marilyn's viewing session. They hauled out on the 3BS side of Middle Cliff about 1:00 pm. PO3 is four weeks old today and beginning its pudgy look. Marilyn did see a sand covered belly but no way of determining its gender. The pup nursed after hauling out,
then moved behind mom for a snooze.
Between 3BS and SRI was a Juvenile Female just down the beach from the tree root that washed ashore over a week ago. The JF was juvenile size, light female belly and two red tags. Marilyn would guess this is either RS12 (Sadie's 2023 pup) or RS34 (Pua's 2023 pup).

Team R&B were at plains watching some dolphins for a few. They
also found the very large Miss Aukai RL12 resting on shore. There were a lot less folks out on the beach today. They got a big chuckle while watching her trying to stretch.

Next stop at Nimitz they were happy to find another seal. It was RN14 Kalani resting peacefully.  They had a scar when three big dogs showed up running on the reef to the left. Team R&B stayed keeping watch, thankfully two men arrived and the dogs left with them.

April 28, 2024 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:08 to 1:40 and there were only three seals seen during that time.
Out on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult to adult size, older coat, mottled tannish female belly and two red tags.
RF34 Pua and PO3 are back at the beach at Middle Cliff. Pua was still in the water when Marilyn arrived, but PO3 had hauled out next to the rocks and was mostly hidden. Mom then hauled out and moved over to the other side of the beach and PO3 followed and ultimately curled up next to her. Mom still looks good and the PO3 is getting plumper by the day. It appears mom and pup go for a swim in the late morning and then snooze in the early afternoon.

Team R&B got a late start today, their first stop was at the bay. There they found RL70 Leina in the rocks snoozing. All of a sudden they spotted a rather large seal hauling in cautiously. It was to quote Barb a "gigantic blob" who turned out to be Kala RH76. She passed Leina with the help from the wave surges and moving very slowly. She made her way right to her zen garden to relax.
While watching the girls, a friend came by and said he saw a seal come up on the other side. They went to check it out and discovered R3CX Nalu.

At another west side location, they spotted a seal while on the road. They pulled over to check and found RM31 Kai in a small pond.  While trying to get a shot of his tag they discovered another seal. RL08 was there with his head and belly in the water, and thankfully his hind flippers were up on the rocks. His L9 tag and applied bleach N18 were visible.

Next stop at Kahe they found one seal there today. It was RL20 Kalua alone without his buds. There were lots of people out today on the beaches. In spite of all the people RL20 was resting peacefully.

Heading over to Nimitz they saw close to 30 people in a small area. They were hoping it wasn't a seal,
but sure enough there was RN14 Kalani resting on the reef.  All was okay, even when one guy was throwing a net at the reef, not bothering the seal. Then his son got overly excited seeing the fish and yelled out to his papa. That is when RN14 woke up and leapt at the kid who yelled.  The dad talked the boy to keep walking to him, then they grabbed the net and walked out to shore. Add to this some guys on the sand yelling and RN14 aware of them as well. Team R&B watched, and waited for all to quiet down and then left.

A quick stop at the cliffs they found their boy RP30 Puka. Once again he was alone on the rocks resting.
They spotted a seal from afar and on their way home went to check. It was RT413 Makamae who was resting. There were lots of people, lots of footprints and no signs. She seemed to be doing okay.
Team R&B had a great seal day and were thrilled to end the day with another female seal.
