Aloha Good People! I hope where ever you are, you and your loved ones are safe. I can not express my personal worry about what is happening in our country, between fires in California and a category 4 storm about to slam the gulf coast. My heart is heavy as I hope everyone will be safe and the damage is that which is replaceable. Oh and then there is that nasty pandemic :-(
Here on Oahu we are officially on another STAY AT HOME order beginning at midnight for the next two weeks. We are allowed to run essential errands, groceries, doctors, and a few other things, but for the most part we are in lock-down. I don't know what that means in terms of seal sightings. If there is news to report I will do my best to let you know what I know.
Since Team T&D normally volunteer at Ka'ena Point they decided to make a check today before the lockdown. They met up with Lesley and while out they found Holokai RG40. He has some ruffling starting around his chest which may indicate he's getting ready to molt.
Next they found Ka'ena at 10 minute beach. They also made a stop to check on "chicky" a shearwater chick.
Lastly on their way out the spotted a seal on the move swimming in the tide pool, Lesley was able to ID R330 Squinty.
Meanwhile on the west side RL20 Kalua was to the right and inland resting. The original larger hook still in place and the smaller ones are gone.
Kekoa Alii RK72 was to the right of seal rock inlet on his side snoozing. As the tide came up and moved up. He is looking fat and happy, his facial scar and mottled belly were visible.
RF28 Paakea was snoozing on his side all the way to the right.
At another location three seals were up on shore snoozing. R3CX Nalu was left side of R407 Kawika and Leia RL42. There was no observed interaction, all were snoozing peacefully.
Kalani was on the rocks alone today. His scar on his hind flipper was visible along with the line scar on his backside. He is a very large healthy male.
