5-16-2014 DB's Dailies: Pua,M38,Temp401,Aukai@RI, Kea@BH, Kaiwi@CW, RIP@WP, Ka'ena,Kolohe,RL42,Temp402@KP, Luana@Mokuleia, Haupu@Maili Pt, Benny@Makaha, La'akea&Kaikaina@TB

At 0609 I found an overnighted Kea (RN46) remaining in the cove on the Sandy Beach side of the Blowhole Lookout. He has remained all day. Marilyn reported him gone at 1900.

I met NOAA personnel shortly after 0600 at Makai Pier. They went to Rabbit Island to search for the S/F with the facial wound. Chad would ultimately find her foraging off shore of Kaohikipu (Black Rock),at 0812 , the smaller island near RI. Michelle (the Vet), assessed her and decided that her wound is healing, and that there would be no intervention at this time. I would find her at Rocky Right Beach, on Rabbit Island at 1353. Later M38 would find her also. She handled him well. Her right side facial wound is certainly heavy duty, but these animals are capable of amazing healing. Mark Sullivan managed to match yesterday’s photos with those of Temp401, seen previously at Ka’ena Point, so we now have a ID. Wonder what brought her to Rabbit Island... and I really hope her wounds heal without causing her problems.

first found M38 at 0628 at the far left end of RI. He would do his usual “cruiser male” thing through the day.

Also at 0628 I found Aukai (RL12) at 3BS. Mark would confirm the ID on RI.

At 1020 Gayle called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at China Walls. She was still there on my 1200.

At 1239 I found Pua (RF34) just hauling out to Left Greenery on RI. She would be joined at 1339 but M38. He would depart at 1345. The Donna thought I’d have some deep reason behind the Pua name. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Pua (flower), seemed appropriate. It’s short and sweet, just like the girl .  The Donna thinks short and sweet is a good enough reason :-)

At 0657 the Billands called to advise that surfer posse member Rich had cordoned off what would prove to be RIP, fronting #1708, White Plains. He would depart at 1000 , only to return at 1038. He departed for good at 1317 per Trudy.

Vera called from the end of the world at 1034 with the report of RL42, Kolohe (RW22)& Ka’ena (RO40).

A call from Lesley at 1700 advised that she added Squinty (Temp402) to the KP list, as well as Luana (RN58) at the Mokuleia birth beach.

At 1313 Vera called again with the report of an animal at Maili Beach Park. Team Billand confirmed the Haupu (RB24) ID at 1327.

At 1345 the Billand reported that Debbie had found Benny (RE74) at Aki’s Beach, Makaha.
