On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0643 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) at Rocky Right Beach.
On the 2nd look , at 0815 I found Sadie &Pup (RB12)(D#32), at the far left end of the beach on RI. They would do a feed and then enter the water, hauling out, for the first time to the left end rock flats at 1048.
Also at 0815 I found an U/F out on the left end rock flats. No tags, no markers, female belly. She had to move a bit when Sadie decided to haul out near her location, but there was on interaction.
Again at 0815 I found what would prove to be Nani (RK60) at Left Greenery on RI. She would remain all day.
A 0830 on a routine pan I found Kainoa (RN04) moving down out of the Morning Glory. I’d been completely unaware of him until he moved into view.
Though I’d found nobody on 3 morning checks of Blowhole, Gayle called at 1135 to report Kea (RN46) in the small cove on the Sandy Beach side of the Blowhole Lookout. When I arrived at 1155 I found Kea doing his best rock imitation.
Team Billand checked in at 0626 with the report of M&M (R020) fronting the Snack Shack at White Plains. Dalin spent the day in the Billand’s world today.
At 0815 they reported that Buster (RV08) had hauled out to join M&M. They departed together at 1708.
The Donna called at 1032 to advise that she’d received word of an animal at Moku Nui today. Awaiting photos. I was told by the KSK guides that were out on the island there wasn't any sign of a seal... in fact a couple of them mentioned they were out on the islands yesterday and no sightings. The photo that was sent to me MAY have been from another day.... ( I ASSumed it was was from today).
At 1159 the Billands reported Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove.
Diane Gabriel called at 1419 to advise that she and Lesley had done their routine upper east side trek today. She reported finding R5AY at Malaekahana at 0910, an then later at Turtle Bay they found Kaikaina (RL54) at the Elbow at 1000. La’akea (RK82) showed up at 1215 and they went for a swim/play session, hauling out together at 1415.

Is R5 AY kind of thin because she just went through her molt? Do the monk seals eat while they go through this?
Or maybe she didn't get her weight back from having her pup.
Typically we see females being really thin between weaning and molting. For the most part no they don't eat or eat much during the molting.
Having said all that, yes R5AY is looking thin... I think we;ll see if in the next couple weeks she starts to bulk up.
I am sure given all she has been through everyone is keeping a watchful eye on her.
