4-9-2014 DB's Dailies:Sadie&Pup,Kainoa,Aukai&Nani@RI, Kaiwi@CW, Buster,M&M@WP, Pohaku&Haupu@PC, Benny@Makaha, Luana@Mokuleia

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0705 I found Sadie&Pup (RB12)(D#6) at the far left end of the beach. The would move down mid morning, and I observed 2 shallow water sessions, as well as multiple feed today.

Also at 0705 I found what would prove to be Aukai (RL12) at 3BS, and further to the right at Rocky Right Beach I found Nani (RK60). That was a pleasant surprise. Fortunately her big, beautiful N60 bleach was showin’ .

Things began to get unpleasant at 0813 when I got back to the pier for my 2nd look . I found Kainoa (RN04) up in the Morning Glory, fronting 1BS, on RI. When he began to move down at 0924 I immediately saw that he was not using his LFF, and I saw red meat showing a his LFF shoulder joint. After observing for a while to confirm what I was seeing, I contacted Tracy. She in turn started the ball rolling for a NOAA response. Mark, Jessie & Angie responded and confirmed , in consultation with Dr. Greg that Kainoa had sustained a Cookie Cutter Shark wound above his LFF. Photos confirmed the classic CC wound. It was decided that no intervention was required. Those of you who have been around a while know very well, that as bad as I looks, before you know it, there will be a little pit scar visible. Still its hard to watch the little dude in distress.

At 1120 Gayle called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96), once again at CW. Because of the Kainoa mission I didn’t get over there until 1443, but she was still snoozin’ there.

At 0615 Team Billand checked in with the reported of a probably overnighted M&M (R020) & Buster (RV08) together fronting #1707, White Plains. On their 1608 recheck, Buster was gone.

Diane Tekai called at 0812 with the report of Pohaku (RO28) amongst the usual hordes at Paradise Cove.

At 1011 Diane reported that Haupu (RB12) had hauled out within the zone to joind Pohaku. Pohaku would depart at 1055. Haupu remained.

At 1337 Ocean Safety called with the report of an U/U at Makaha Beach. Team Billand would confirm the Benny (RE74) ID.

Kimo Smith called at 1730 with the report of Luana (RN58) at her birth beach, Mokuleia.

Sad to hear about Kainoa and his shark bite. Wow that's the first time I seen a bite that hasn't already healed. I hope he will be alright.

On the other hand Sadie's pup is so cute.

Irma, Irma, please come back to Oahu!
