8-8-2012 DB's Dailies

At 0637 I found Irma (R010) snoozin' on off shore rocks at Kaupo Beach Park. She has remained there all day. Many, many people used the beach today, and only a few of them were ever aware that she was even there. Those few that did notice her, maintained a respectful distance while checking her out for short visits. Irma was there at 1700, but gone at 1800.

At 0639 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) up in the grass behind Seal Rock Inlet, on Rabbit Island. He would later move down, allowing me to see his dorsal transmitter scar, as well as a CC scar on his male belly, and 2 red tags.

Aukai (RL12) would haul out to Seal Rock Inlet at 1002 and move up to join Duke. She maintained physical contact quite a bit, and though she was on the off side, it appeared that she might be trying to feed. Duke was remarkably calm about the attention, and never snapped at her at all.
At 1105 Aukai move down out of my line of sight, but moved up again at 1212 to once again join Duke. They were both there snoozin' together when I departed the pier.

At 0723 I found Buster (RV08) doing 7 minute dives at Spitting Cave. Gayle checked all the usual spots, (SC, CW & KK) in the afternoon, but did not find Buster.

At 1257 Gayle called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at Lanai Lookout.

Team Billand called at 0649 to report that Pohaku (RO28) was once again at Secret Beach, KoOlina.

Also during that call the Billands advised that they were responding to a call of 2 animals at Lagoon #4 at KoOlina. When they arrived at 0704 the animals had been run off by adoring fans.

Thankfully, we have shots from today's pup site activity to share. Thank You Lesley.

 Where's waldo? Irma?
When I first looked at this picture I thought OMG there's a party on Rabbit Island.... I had to re-read the dailies thinking I missed something important... then realized this is a shot of Kaupo Beach  taken of course by DB.
 The lanai lookout lass (Kaiwi)
Enjoy these great pictures of r912 and pup - She's such a good mom and this kid certainly keeps her on her toes flippers!
