8-21-2012 DB's Dailies: Aukai,Duke&New Signs@RI, Kaiwi&Buster@LL, Pohaku@Maili, Rocky@IRQ

At 0643 I found Duke (RA12) right where he has been for oh so many days now, at Left Middle Cliff, on Rabbit Island.

At 1130 Aukai (RL12) hauled out to the water front rocks fronting 3BS , on RI.

They shared the island with a DOFAW (Department of Forestry & Wildlife) personnel who replaced the old signs with brand new ones, with new wording. The shots a junk so know that the signs read "Manana Island / State Wildlife Sanctuary / Prohibited Entry / Keep Off Island / Unauthorized entry or Landing is Strictly Prohibited / Island is Under Surveillance / Violators are Subject of Criminal Prosecution".
That oughta' do it doncha' think ???? Fifteen minutes after they finished the last sign, while they were still on the island, a male and female on stand up paddle boards, with large cooler and dry bag, attempted to haul out, caring absolutely nothing about signs, New or Old. DOFAW personnel nipped it the bud, so they never actually made it to shore. They were met by DOCARE personnel when they got back to Kaupo Beach Park. I want, with alllll my little bald heart, to believe that new signs is the answer. I reeeeeeeally do, BUT I have zero faith in my fellow man. There is no substitute for Enforcement, Enforcement, Enforcement. I would love to have the opportunity to ask people, why? Did they not see the sign? Do they just not care, don't think they're going to get caught, or just clueless?

At 0940 Gayle reported Kaiwi (RK96) at Lanai Lookout. At 1130 she reported that Buster (RV08) had joined her. He would come and go several times, the last departure coming at 1719. Thank you to elves, Gayle (video),Z & June for a day on the cliffs.

Team Billand called at 0630 to report Pohaku (RO28), once again at Nanakai Beach, Maili. An 1806 call advised that she was still there.

Vera Cober called at 0730 with the report of Rocky (RH58) at Iroquois Point, Vera barely had time to get a cordon up and get a few ID shots, when Rocky abrupted departed at 0830.

Afternoon email from Dana advised that residents near Access #186B put up signs around an animal upon arrival at 1404. A shot would suggest it is Rocky, based on a new belly, but ?????

In the "Yesterday's News" department, Karen Turner sent a few shots of Mom & the Kid at Mokuleia.
