8-7-2012 DB's Dailies

I was barely on the road when Teri called at 0620 to advise that Buster (RV08) was doing 6-7 minute dives at Spitting Cave. I continued my route, and when I arrived at SC , sure enough there was Buster on patrol. He would still be there on my 1125 recheck.

At 0848 Rachel called from Diamond Head to report that Rocky (RH58) and Benny (RE74) were still there, and still together. Irma was no longer there, and was not seen today. Gayle and Teri did a DH recon and reported that Rocky&Benny had entered the water just as they arrived, and did a short swim, hauling out again a couple of hundred feet further east at DH. They have remained all day.

At 1011 I finally found Aukai (RL12) , barely visible in a tide pool, 30 ft east of 3BS on Rabbit Island. I would not get a full view of her until 1425 when she moved up on to the beach about a body length and went back to snooze mode.

Posse member Linda called at 1325 to advise that Buster had hauled out to Irma's Grotto, Kokee Flats, at 1300. When I arrived at 1349 I confirmed the Buster ID.

Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28), once again at Secret Beach. Her D#6 molt is 60%. She entered the water at 1232, giving the Billands a glimpse of hope that the might see there home before dark, but alas, Pohaku was just kiddin' around, hauling out again ten minutes later, at 1242, and resuming her stay.

Dana called at 1213 to advise that Azlina Harun called reporting RI37 near her house in Laie. Confirmation photos were received.

Though there was lots of action today, my own highlight of the day, has to be receiving shots from Tracy, showing Kermit (R012) on Kauai yesterday, in the company of Kauai chick, K30. He is lookin' pretty ratty, and has a new marker on the right side of his neck. He also appears to have lost a few pounds. It was probably chasing all the Niihau chicks that kept him in shape. If he is running true to form, he may be back to Oahu in the not too distant future.

Can everyone tell which seal is Benny?  Wait and watch.... the one that lifts his head like a periscope.... that's our Benny.

Buster @ Kokee Flats
RI37 @ Laie - Thank you.... glad she came back to visit you.
