At 0930 I found Kolohe snoozin' on the water front rocks, 80 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island. He was the only flippered resident of RI today.
DOCARE had two guys on one of their boats in the Rabbit Island area around mid day. They spoke with 2 paddle boarders, and a gang of 4 kayaks in the RI area, but there is no way to know what their intentions were. It was comforting to have the authorities in the area. Of course they departed at 1330, and at 1500 , 2 paddle boarders hauled out on RI, and there was no DOCARE response. They were two young lovers, with no interest in Kolohe,
whatsoever. I'll keep this account PG rated.
Team Billand reported Kermit at White Plains , fronting #1707 at 0852. Apparently, Dana and others including the Allens, and Jim Brown were on Kermit duty today. I got a 2nd had report of Kermit entering the water at around 1340, for a 15 minute foraging session, before hauling out again fronting #1708. I'm told he may have interacted in some way with a woman who was swimming in the waters fronting the SPZ.
Hopefully, Dana will provide some insight to that incident.
Dera called at 1340 with the report of an U/U , somewhere on the Kawela Bay side of the Turtle Bay Hotel. I have no further word as of this writing.
Team Billand called at 1648 to advise that Makaiwi was at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park again today.
DOCARE - Xrated hmmm fundraising opportunity? (just kidding)
Kermit @ white plains on mission...

It broke my heart to see Kermit trying to haul up shore at Plains, near the fenceline. He was headed in, people saw him, the crowd began their usual, HEY ITS A SEAL!!! Run closer with cell phones in hand, spooking poor Kermit. I guess he chose that area, after being hit near the cabin side the other day. I saw him enter the water, speeding away from all those PAPARAZZI..watched him pass me, then turn to the area he got hit. If only people would let this poor seal, haul up, settle down, THEN TAKE THEIR YOUTUBE SHOTS...Kermit would STAY!! But folks dont seem to understand this simple request. I feel for this seal, known as KERMIT. He has been run off so many times, but yet, he keeps trying to return for a spot to rest. Even after we rope and sign him off, people STILL try to run in front of him, gaze at him on surf boards, right in front of him. I understand your curousity, that moment of a GREAT PHOTO..but do it in peace and at a distance...BEHIND the seal zone, PLEASE. Have respect for a creature who is dying out at 4 and 1/2 % a year...they are...NEXT TO EXTINCTION PEOPLE!!! Absorb thier wonderful souls...observe them in quiet..its so simple!!!! Give the seals who haul up at White Plains the respect they so deserve. Share the beach...THANK YOU!
