Fortunately, there was action in other quadrants. Team Billand checked in at 0920 with the report of Pohaku, RO28 at her usual Maili Point hangout.
At 1103 they found Makaiwi foraging off shore of Nimitz Jetty. She finally hauled out to Nimitz Beach, fronting #1945 at 1118, only to depart again at 1150.
At 1137 Team Billand responded to a Dera call about an animal at Nanakuli. People were said to be pulling on it's hind flippers. When the Billands arrived they found a new , juvenile ,male, Kauai animal with a V014 bleach. This is the first known sighting of this animal on Oahu.
Dana forwarded shots from KC Connor in Kaaawa, confirming that yesterday's Kaaawa animal was in fact KC. I find it fascinating that KC could find KC in Kaaawa !! Actually DB not to ruin it for you but....KC sent a link from another blog about Kaaawa.... I beleive the photographer and person who spotted our KC the seal is Ian Lind. http://ilind.net/2011/03/01/another-seal-sighting-in-kaaawa-2/#comments

Makaiwi was funny today. She was spotted off the jetty at 10:22am. She hauled out at Nimitz 11:20am. But she only stayed a short while, 11:42am she started flipping and flopping on shore, threw sand with one flipper, then took off just 75 feet from shore for over an hour. We gave up waiting for her by 1pm and left her just floating on the surface. She never hauled up again. She did have a few excited folks visit her as she hauled up. But then she always captures everyones heart when she shows up. My daughter told us there was an earthquake today at 11:20am...wonder if that affected Makaiwi????? WHo knows????
