May 28, 2025 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:00 pm and there were three seals seen on island during that time.
When she first arrived there was only one seal visible. This turned out to be RL08 "BamBam Squarepants". He was on the rocks on the RRB side of the SRI channel. Marilyn could see that it was an adult male, but didn't confirm his identity until later when he hauled out of the SRI channel. Then she could see his numerous CC scars on his left shoulder, right shoulder, mid right dorsal and his abscess on the right rear side that is fringed in green. Marilyn thinks there might be a hook on the left side of RL08's mouth.
Weaner PO3 was seen frolicking in the nearshore tide pool down from 3BS. With the rising tide, PO3 hauled out and ultimately showed off his light male belly.
At 12:54 pm, Marilyn saw was turned out to be a weaned PO4 on the rock flats a short distance from RL08. Today is 45 days since she was born and is now a weaner. She almost immediately rolled over and showed off her light female belly for the rest of Marilyn's viewing session.

Team R&B got a text about a seal on the rocks at Maili. They headed over and found R617 resting at the inlet. It was especially nice that his N70 applied bleach was visible!

Next they found a seal at cliffs. What is especially interesting  is for that last year they had noticed a little patch of sand that they thought would be a good place for a seal to rest. Well to their joy today they found RG32 resting alone in this spot. They noted the scar over his right eye.
Later in the day on their way home they rechecked and he was still there but further up hiding in the rocks.

They stopped at yoks and spotted an adult seal resting comfortably on shore. They saw two red tags but they were dirty and hard to read.
They noted a ding on its back and initially didn't know if it was a male or female.
After an hour of not moving, Team R&B walked back to the car and from afar they noticed the seal had an applied bleach N16. They checked in with the posse and determined it was RW02 PvKauai.
Then of course they had to stop and watch the dolphins do what they do best. Having Fun!

May 27, 2025 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 2:25 pm and there were three seals seen on island today.
Weaner PO3 was alone on the beach near 3BS. Marilyn did not see him go into the water today. His male belly was visible. Also he appeared to play with something on the beach several times.
RF34 Pua and her female pup PO4 were initially on the waterfront rocks near the beach at Middle Cliff.  Marilyn viewed on extended nursing session. At about 1:45 pm, PO4 headed for the water and a
short time later Pua followed. They moved in the Makapuu direction and when Pua and PO4 passed by there PO3 was on the beach, Pua stopped to check the weaner and then turned and followed after PO4. Marilyn lost sight of them soon after that and did not see them again.
Here's some seal trivia: Assuming MO3 was Sadie RB12. Sadie is Pua's mom, so PO3 is Pua's half-brother and PO4's Uncle..... and PO4 is Sadie's grand-daughter!

Team R&B only had one seal today. They found RL20 Kalua at Kahe. He was alone resting on the rocks in an empty pond. He is looking quite green.

May 26, 2025 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:50 to 2:35 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
Alone down from the 1BS was a Sun-Adult Female: small sub-adult size, light female belly and two red tags. She moved up and down the beach several times.
We have a Weaner!  Marilyn was pretty sure it was PO3, and
confirmed it when she was able to ID RF34 with her pup. Plus she did finally see the weaner's male belly. PO3 was playing in nearshore waters for an extended period. He then hauled out for a while before entering the water. He moved closer to SRI before hauling out again. PO3 is 44 days old today.
RF34 Pua and PO4 had a nursing session near the SRI inlet when Marilyn first arrived. Then PO4 led Pua into the water and later they hauled out behind some waterfront rocks on the RRB of SRI. They then entered the water again and showed up offshore between 3BS
and SRI. Then Pua and pup hauled out. Put was very aware of weaner PO3 on shore. When PO3 started moved toward RF34 and PO4, Pua vocalized and sent the weaner scrambling. Poor kid. The weaner playing nearshore for awhile before seeming to mouth something it found in the sand.

Team R&B's first find was at Pokai, They found RM31 Kai at the zen area resting alone. His coat was dry, which made reading his applied bleach difficult and that he probably was there for a while.
They noted the beaches were crazy busy today.

Next they headed to Kahe where they searched around for over an hour. Then they happen to look over
to the rocks and there was a seal. It had a cc scar on its left fore flipper area, that's when they realized it wasn't Lefty, it was R416. He doesn't have tags, and when he finally turned on his side they saw his cc scar under his belly.   He suddenly was very alert and it wasn't just because the crabs ran over him.
As they were photographing R416, another seal hauled up. The two seals argued for a bit. It was RL20 Kalua hauled up, R416 took a pee, which RL20 seem to not be happy with. RL20 took off, but R416
stayed and went further up on the rocks,  Guess he was marking his territory.

While out today Team R&B said a prayer for the military who gave us our freedom. They watched as the jets flew over.
