June 13, 2025 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:52 to 2:18 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
About 1/3 of the way between 1BS and 2BS were MO11 and her day old pup PO11. PO11 appear to have about an 8 inch remnant of its umbilical cord. It doesn't seem to bother the pup. Why MO11 (probably Kala RH76) chooses such a difficult rocky area is perplexing. PO11 has the hardest time getting into a good position to nurse. Marilyn never saw PO11 successfully nurse today, both mom and pup seem to be doing fine.
Near the 2BS, Marilyn first spotted RL12 Aukai with a view of her ventral side. It was only sometime later that PO12 appeared from behind her. PO12 seems healthy and active which is a relief. Aukai's pup last year did not act as usual and was missing by the second morning. NOAA flew a UAS (drone) over RI today and their photos confirm PO12's mom is RL12 Aukai. (two red tags and distinctive scars).
Marilyn also saw both weaners today, but again she wasn't able to determine which was RU24 or which was RH38.
Weaner 1 was about 50 feet on the Lanikai side of MO11/PO11
perched on waterfront rocks. Weaner 1 moved around some but never showed its ventral.
Weaner 2 hauled out down from the 1BS at about 1:18 pm. The weaner seemed fine and Marilyn could see both tags, but never showed its ventral side.

Team R&B's first find today was Nalu R3CX. He was in the water looking around, probably for Kala. Poor guy continues to look around for her, but sorry she on Rabbit Island being a mom.
R3CX came in all the inlets and then disappeared.

At Kahe they spotted a good size seal with lots of green. They were able to ID RL20 Kalua who was alone resting at the rocks/pond.  A couple of people came by and walked down to get a closer look, thankfully they didn't run him off.  Later RL20 moved and the people left. Team R&B noted he is hook free.

They were thrilled to see lots of dolphins today in two different areas. The dolphins were having fun and all the folks watching were loving it.

Since they weren't finding many seals, they decided to check out Kaena west.
As they approached one area, they spotted a seal. They spotted a big hook. The seal was leaving the area, but they managed to get three shots. The seal had a cc scar on right side, the lure was on the right near his penis area. Unfortunately the seal left, and despite they're looking they never saw him again.

June 12, 2025 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:18 to 2:41 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
But the big news of the day is PO11 is here! When Marilyn first started viewing she saw MO11 and PO11 about halfway between 1BS and 2BS in a location with lots of rocks. The question is who is the mom? The two most likely possibilities are RH76 Kala or RL12 Aukai. Marilyn thinks MO11 is probably Kala RH76, this is based almost entirely on the fact that a pregnant adult female located near
the 2BS appears to have two tags. NOAA told Marilyn RL12 has two tags and RH76 only has one on the LRF. Kala RH76 has a scar on her left neck area. Last year NOAA applied bleaches to both Aukai and Kala so it was easier to discern who was who.
PO11 was on the makai side of MO11 and Marilyn was worried for a while that MO11 would not move up soon enough with the rising tide, but thankfully she did. PO11 followed and then spent a lot of time trying to find a nipple to nurse. But MO11 was in an awkward position for the pup to get to her nipples. With the continued rising
tide, MO11 moved up the beach again and with some effort the pup followed her. Marilyn thinks they're doing fine.
The Pregnant Adult Female who is probably RL12 Aukai because of the two tags, appears ready to give birth any time. The PAF was about 70 feet away from MO11/PO11. Kala and Aukai have given birth one day apart at least three time.
Marilyn also saw the two weaners and a sub-adult seal that visited each of them. They were all between 3BS and SRI.  She really couldn't determine which weaner was which.
Weaner 1 hauled out about 11:41 am and Marilyn got a partial ventral view but couldn't determine its sex.
Weaner 3 was originally out on the rock flats on the Lanikai side of SRI. Weaner 2 headed for the Unknown Unidentified who showed up near Weaner 1 and then moved toward Weaner 2.
The U/U was sub-adult to adult size, but Marilyn never saw the ventral or the rear flippers.

Team R&B's first find was a seal foraging off the outfall area near the jetty. The seal had a lot of green but that was all they could determine. They only got one photo and then it was gone. They waited but the seal never landed.  They did see dolphins while they were there.

Their only other find of the day was a seal at yoks. They were happy to see BG R303, since its been awhile.  Three were people out and about and thankfully they were respectful.
BG is looking big and getting quite plump.

June 11, 2025 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:41 to 2:33 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
Initially together about 40 feet Lanikai side of the SRI inlet were the two weaners, RU24 (po3) and RU38 (po4). Again RU24 seemed to trying to get away from RU38, but she kept pursuing him. Ultimately, RU38 nudged RU24 and then they both went into snooze mode. Later RU38 did pursue RU24 again. RU24 seems to want to be a loner.
About 1:07 pm, Marilyn became aware of an adult seal in the shallows about 20 feet Makapuu side of 3BS. This seal seemed to be checking out the weaners who were a
considerable distance away. When the seal finally hauled out it was obvious the newcomer was a Pregnant Adult Female. Bothe RL12 Aukai and RH76 Kala are predicted to give birth in the next 3-4 days. Marilyn isn't sure which seal this is, but her first guess is RL12 Aukai. She thought she saw a ref tag of LRF but couldn't confirm in her photos.

Team R&B spent the day looking again and were batting zero. They kept at it and finally at pokai they saw a seal hauling into the zen area.
Its head was up high looking around, they ID'd R3CX Nalu. He checked all the inlets and didn't fully land. They lost sight of him.

Although Team R&B had a slow seal day, that didn't stop them from enjoying some of the beauty that is around us.  Of course there was a dolphin, alone jumping like crazy.  Then they spotted a beautiful butterfly. Lastly they watched a boobie flying by.
