June 3, 2025 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:35 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
Near each other on LPB were two seals:
Weaner PO4: weaner size, no tags, deduced as PO4, because Marilyn confirmed that the other weaner seen today was a male PO3.
Sub-adult Male: sub-adult to adult size, older coat, medium dark ventral with some green male belly and two tags.
At 1:21 pm, PO4 entered the LPB surge channel. The SM followed into the surge channel a few minutes later. About an hour later at 2:18 pm, and the SM hauled out alone.
About 50 feet on the Middle Cliff side of 3BS was PO3: weaner size, light male belly. He was initially doing the "snoopy pose" on the waterfront rocks.
At 2:31 pm, Marilyn became aware that a throw net fisherman had hauled out in his kayak which he had mostly hidden behind the SRI rocks. He then managed to walk by PO3 and scar him into the water
and he later walked behind the SM who did not respond to him.  Marilyn left a short time later.

Team R&B's first find was RH32 Kaale. He was hauled out and resting alone up at the zen area. He probably anticipating a female arrival soon.

They got a call from a friend of  seal on shore at plains. So of course they headed over and upon arrival they saw a female with a green coat. They saw her faded tag and were thrilled to see it was RH48 Lei Ola who has recently weaned her pup.  She is looking thinner but doing okay.

During their travels they saw dolphins doing what they do best.... having fun.  They also got a great picture of a fairy tern flying by with a fish in its mouth.

Back to their west side journey they came across a big male who was ID'd as R617. He was resting on the edge of the rocks. His N70 applied bleach was visible.
While onsite they spotted a seal hidden in the rocks. They spent over
30 minutes looking and finally they saw a cc scar, a line on back of its head and white nail. This leads them to believe this could be RG28 Lefty.
They kept watch over the hidden seal, when suddenly they see another seal bobbing up and down in the water. It was R617, who approached RG28. They argue, R617 moved away and RG28 slid into the water and they headed out.

June 2, 2025 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:41 to 3:34 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
On the waterfront rocks between Middle Cliff and 3BS were two seals:
Sub-adult Male: sub-adult to adult size, dark gray coat, medium gray male-belly and two red tags.
Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, tan female belly with lots of green and two red tags.
Out on RRB was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, older coat, light yellow female belly with a small line scar midventral, unsure about tags.
At 1:14 pm, what turned out to be weaner PO4 hauled out on LPB from the surge channel: weaner size and light female belly.
It was not until 3:15 pm that weaner PO3 hauled out down from 3BS. Marilyn had seen him playing in the nearshore waters for about 15 minutes before he hauled out.

Marilyn had got word from Gamma Gayle of two seals on the beach  this morning. Marilyn headed over and between 9:35 to 10:55 am and the two seals were separated about 50 feet apart.
RQ32 (born on Molokai in 2022): sub-adult size, light female belly, tags are worn in the white paint is missing on the Q32 and Q33 was easier to read, comma shaped scar on right lower cheek and line scar on base of RFF. This is the first time Marilyn has seen RQ32, but she apparently has been seen in the neighborhood  recently.
TempN25; sub-adult size, mottled male belly, no tags, scar at base of LFF, applied N25 bleaches mid-dorsal and rump.

Team R&B arrived at pokai and found RH32 Kaale hauling up onto the rocks. There were no lines, no hooks, looking very healthy. He seemed alert and aware someone was there.
They hung out for a bit and then realized why he was so alert, there was another seal hauling in.
Although they were happy to see another seal they saw the seal had a line trailing.  They ID'd R3CX Nalu as he came all the way up. They
could not see any hook that was visible. They noted the line going alone his body and over his right fore flipper.
At one point they saw a swivel at the end of the line by his right fore flipper. He pulled at the line, head in the air and was able to land just fine.
He slept the whole time they were there. Then at 10:22 am he took off and they never saw him again or which direction he headed off in.

June 1, 2025 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:48 to 2:50 pm and initially there were no seals seen when she first started viewing. But there were three humans that have recently landed near SRI. Two of the men spent most the time on the island collecting opihi on the Makapuu end of the island. DOCARE was called and did respond. Marilyn doesn't know anything beyond that.
At 2:07 pm, Marilyn spotted a weaner, later to be determined as PO3, haul out on the beach at Middle Cliff. Marilyn saw his male belly to confirm PO3s ID.
She did not see weaner PO4. Because of the low tide, she could have been offshore or in one of the reef flat tide pools.

Team R&B started their day at pokai, and on their first visit there were no seals.
Then checking again they finally spotted a seal going around the front rocks and to the right. It was searching for a place to haul out. The seal left the area, Team R&B could see it was an adult and thought it could possibly be Kaale RH32.
They waited to see if the seal would return, but it did not.

Suddenly they see a seal splashing about, it was hooked and they could see the line coming from its mouth. They tried to see anything that would give them an ID, the seal had a tag but they couldn't read it. The seal was reeled into the jetty and they lost sight of it, so they waited. A few minutes later the seal came out of the jetty and took off they never saw it again.

A few minutes after the hooking seal left they saw another seal haul up on the rocks to the right. The seal seemed to be agitated. They were able to ID RH32 Kaale, and they went to look to see if he had any gear, hooks or lines. He was very vocal and Team R&B had a good view of his mouth, nothing there. It
was clean, no cuts or blood, no line. So it seems he was not the hooked seal. They also noted Kaale doesn't have tags anymore.

It rained on and off all day on the west side. Team R&B kept looking hoping to find more seals. Finally at cliffs they found one seal in a pond resting. They saw its cc scar on its right side, and showed its tag in the water. There was RP30 Puka all alone. They wonder if he is due to molt soon since he is so green.
