In yesterdays news department Marilyn was informed of two seals on the east side. She went to check them out and pretty much spent the day with them. They were:
R016 Right Spot ID'd by her nb on her right side, female belly belly and a healing shark bite wounds.
By her side was RK24 Bruno/Wawamalu ID'd by his adult size, K24/25 tags, light gray male belly and scar on his lower lip.
Team R&B started their day at the bay and initially didn't see anything. But then there was a rock and itwas breathing LOL. They went to check it out and sure enough there was a seal about 50 ft from the water, resting where some of the homeless set up.
They finally were able to get a look and saw its tag, it was RL20 Kalua. He's looking healthy and was resting. They did not stay so they wouldn't draw any attention to his hidden spot.
Next stop they spotted a seal hauling up on the rocks. When they got closer they immediately knew it was RK72 Kekoa Alii, who they been searching for. It appears his critter cam has fallen off, but his sat tag is still attached. He looks good and was resting peacefully while they were there.
Last stop they found the lovely Miss Aukai RL12. She was sleeping and a protection zone was in place.
The beach was crowded and some of the kids were playing in front of her. The waves pushed their boogie board up to her, which they thought was funny. One kid ran over got the board, but when they let it happen again, Team R&B called out to them to move away from the seal. The older brother told them to move away. Team R&B called the hotline and explained the beach was very crowded and its a three day weekend.
